I just got done talking to Mom and everything's good. :)

Good afternoon, yankie and TUrtLE!

yankie, another gorgeous day here, isn't it? :)

TUrtLE, I got the Kroger survey on Wednesday's receipt and I took it; already got the points. :) I will check in TL (in a minute) about the message about potassium.

Hi Claudie,
Always complications aren't there?
Please check my TL Thurs AM follow up message to you about K.
Your mom sounds determined so I hope she does enjoy herself this afternoon.

Got a survey on my receipt today which I can take next Thursday. IF they post it by Friday and I spend $5 next week that gives me $.30 off. Gas is finally dropping some, where I shop to $3.45 with one station at $3.38. Still hoping to go to the Valley on Monday and finally use the $.30 for this month which means it will be about $2.70 gal.

Almost time to eat.

Howdy! Howdy! Howdy!

It's been a pretty good morning. I talked to Mom about 9; she sounded tired, but alright. She probably just needs to catch up on all the sleep she missed while in the hospital. She told me that being tired wasn't going to stop her, though, from doing her 10:30 exercise class or her going to Steak 'n' Shake for lunch. :) I'll call later to see how all that went.

Was able to get her a follow-up appointment for Tuesday, November 4th, but not with her doctor (the cardiologist b/c he's the one keeping track of the Na and K). It seems like her doctor won't even be in his office until almost the end of November! Say what?? Anyway, I made an appointment with one of the other doctor's in the practice; cannot wait THAT long for her regular doctor to be back! Gosh!

grmoore, oh, so last night's basketball 'event' was just to introduce the players on this year's teams. Aaahhh! I see. So when does the season officially begin?

Farful, thanks for explaining about the piers. That's great that you won't need those for the basement work. As for Steak 'n' Shake, we like their food, too, but it's not that close to us. However, Freddy's opened up in the next town and their food reminds us (and a lot of other people) of Steak 'n' Shake's. Hubby and I have been there once and will likely go back sometime.

attitash, we used to have a poplar tree in our backyard that always dropped a gazillion leaves every Fall. We used to rake them up, but it took forever! So what hubby started to do was to wait until half of the leaves fell, and then mow over them; then wait for the rest to fall and then mow over those. That tree, however, was taken down last January, so not hardly any leaves in the back now!

dick, gosh, bad news about your son developing a new case of the cellulitis; hope they can find out what's going on. As for you, gosh (again)! Hope you start to feel better soon!

Good morning Claudie,

A bit on the sore side today, but I am not surprised. My handicapped son developed cellulitis in his left ankle again. He just got over it in the right calf 7 weeks ago! Took him to a doctor appointment at the hospital, and had to push him in a wheel chair from the parking lot up to his appointment. My back just was not happy after that. It is something that will normally bother it anyway, so hence, why I am not surprised! His doc took a look at the ankle and admitted him to the hospital. They are going to do some blood studies and perhaps try to aspirate some fluid from the ankle area to find out what the infection is, and see if maybe he has a deeper infection issue that is causing this. Sigh.
Hoping that tomorrow I feel better. I will try to take it as easy on my backside as possible today and see if the cortisone can start to do its job.

Good morning Claudie...another wonderful day of sun with a high of 14°C/57.2°F. Able to cycle to work this morning...still remember how to ride it! 23yrs ago I planted 12 maple trees. They grew! Way too many leaves to run the lawnmower through! Engine bogs down. About 80% of the leaves are down so for the rest of the year they will be mulched. Have a great day.

Good morning Claudie and All!

Claudie, Glad that your Mom is able to be back home. We like to visit Steak & Shake too. Mrs. Farful and I both like their hot peppers they keep on the tables. =D

Nice to be back on your regular schedule.

Piers are to support settling foundations. They are made of metal that is driven down into ground to hit solid rock. Each pier may cost more than $1,000 each.

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Friday! (woo hoo; it arrived!) 47 degrees this morning.

Since I will telework today I got to sleep in some this morning after a few lengthy and early starting days. I will also work a reduced schedule today as I've put in over 40 hours this week without considering Friday's work schedule.

Claudie - great news to hear about your mother!

Last night's GSU Jam (Basketball) event went well with a great turnout for the fans' opportunity to meet the men and women's teams, watch 3-point and slam dunk contests and a "blue vs white" scrimmage. The season will be an exciting time. I had a lot of "talking" with intros of the entirety of both teams, various marketing reads and MC'ing the various festivities and contests. I will have a nice rasp in my voice for tonight's Volleyball match! lol

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

God morning, scout, JM, and sandipaws!

scout, wow! Nice bathroom! :)

JM, I don't think they gave us a lower price for this year's tickets. Rotten luck. I think that means the price went up again! :) We'll see how the prices of next year's tickets are. Have a safe trip to Cincinnati!

sandipaws, so far....a 'regular' day, but then the day's not that old yet.

Robustus, hoping you hear something soon from the Goodwill place. <crosses fingers>

MidnightSun, sounds like a lot of rain in your area. Hope that and the winds don't affect your power.

mnjrfan, oh, my, gosh! WHEN will you finish with those leaves??? Holy moley!

org, thanks for today's history tidbit. :)

TUrtLE, hahahahahahahahahaha! Thanks for the morning laugh!

scout, thanks for the Friday music!

WKGaser, hmcsretired, and keywest, thanks for stopping in!

All I can say is that I am ready to get my 'regular' days, and it starts with TODAY! Will have to call the doctor's office and make an appointment for a follow-up visit, and then not much more going on. Thank goodness!

Good Morning Claudie,

Spouting Horn, Depoe Bay, taken by Greg Henton.

Clean those restrooms:

On her way home from a long trip, a blonde drove past a sign that said "CLEAN RESTROOMS 8 MILES."

By the time she drove eight miles, she had cleaned 43 restrooms.

Happy Friday!

On this date, in 1648, the treaties for the Peace of Westphalia were signed, ending the Thirty Years War, ultimately destroying the Holy Roman Empire, and ushering in the modern European state system.

Good morning Claudie!

Food shopping first, then let the games begin. Great news that that mom is home and in time for dinner at the ALF!

Enjoyed the light rain on the drive to Littleton along the CT River Hwy. Saw the first wave of geese overhead, perhaps 60-70 of then honking up a storm. Not many leaves remain on the silver maples lining the CT River.

Bought at the mkt were Driscoll's raspberries $1.50 a pint, blackberries $1.67, cukes are up to 67¢ ea, a 1¼ lb head of leaf lettuce for $1.50, baby bella's were $2.25 for 10 oz, Limes 5/$1, lemons 5/$2, oranges 4/$2, Bartlett pears 98¢s a lb, and sweet potatoes just 54¢ a lb.

Here is the link to the latest prices from Big Papa's Market this week. In tax free Littleton, NH.

Shopped around for sesame oil in four stores. See that my small WM doesn't even carry it. Cheapest seen is $10.30 a qt at Shaws. Will use it to make my own oyster sauce, free of chemicals and MSG.

Also want to make pork, beef or chicken Lo Mein and beef and broccoli Chinese style w/oyster sauce. A common important ingredient to keep on hand. See most store do not stock it.

Returned home to enjoy some war games playing StarCraft II. StarCraft II continues the epic saga of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg waging war upon each other.

These three distinct and powerful races clash once again in the fast-paced real-time strategy sequel to the legendary original, StarCraft. Legions of veteran, upgraded, and brand-new unit types will do battle across the galaxy, as each faction struggles for survival. It has my interest.

Getting the brunt of the storm tonight. Winds gusts up to 25 mph w/a chance of rain near 100 percent. Will be fast asleep and hope the power remains on for heat and to post in the morning. You will know the outcome if there are posts or none.

The ISS orbits early (6:03 PM) and up to twice tonight (7:40 EDT) for those who can see it. See it and the other satellites in your area.

Civil twilight is 6:43 AM EDT. Night is 6:16 PM.

Sunrise: 7:12AM. Set: 5:47 PM.

Length of day: 10h 34m. Length of visible light: 11h 33m. Tomorrow will be 2m 52s shorter.

The temp is 42° (5°C), the high will be 47° (8°C) w/light rain. Heavy rain is on the way.

Have a delightful day!

Hi Claudie,

(Scrolled down and saw the good news about your mom being home from the hospital! I'm glad that's all over for you!)

Another usual day of "business" with work and the now-usual after work visitation to Mom. Nothing new to "chat" about that.

However, work is still getting on my nerves as hours are still down at 15 again for next week. I went over to Goodwill's website again and filled out an application for a position at one of the nearby stores. It is for a retail clerk which you run cashier, stock, and/or assist customers. Then, there was something else I can't quite remember what the position was called. I think something like "hang and pull." I applied for that, too since on the application they let you choose what positions you desire. I assume it is some kind of stocking job. Then, I saw donation attendant, but they only let me only two. The hardest thing and I'm concerned is my availability. I said after 4pm, but I couldn't say what days I can and cannot work. My current work schedule varies each week for what days I work. I'm sure if I can get in there, perhaps I can set up a more steady schedule between the two. So, I do plan on keeping what I'm doing now and then do the other on the days I don't work or a few hours after I get off the first one. So, that way, I can still work part-time, but will end up with full-time hours, if you get what I'm saying.

I still want to check out the other things I mentioned about them. They are supposed to get people "back to work" by providing job assistance services. However, I do not know if they will guarantee a job somewhere. But, it is worth a shot to brush up on those skills. (They even provide counseling/services for people who have difficulty due to criminal backgrounds. I'm not saying I have one, but just something I to give you an idea of what they do.)

So, cross your fingers, I can get something. I really don't want to survive on 15 hours a week and end up moving back with my dad. I know he likes me around to help. But, we both know that won't be pleasant. But, that brings up a slight problem with two jobs. Hopefully, there will still be time to help them out and still enjoy things of my own. That is what I meant by having a part-time job, but getting full-time hours.

Oh, thank goodness! Mom is home from the hospital! She even made it back for her dinner at the ALF. So glad this is over. Well, sorta. Tomorrow I have to call the doctor's office and make a follow-up appointment.

Hello, dickc49, Scanman, Farful, and attitash!

dick, wow! That much rain! That's a bunch! Is the rain over with for now? Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Scanman, Mom is now back and so happy she can sleep in her own bed! Oh! And place Solitaire on her computer!

Farful, congrats on winning that Bingo game! What did you win? Hmmmm, BIX Foundation said you didn't have to have what installed?

attitash, wow! You sure were the Energizer Bunny today, weren't you? Were there many leaves to rake up? Hmmmm, couldn't you have just run the lawn mower over them?

Good afternoon Claudie and All!

Claudie, Hope your Mom recovers quickly and her protimes numbers return to normal. Best wishes.

Had a message ready to send this morning. Was playing bingo earlier but <poof> it disappeared when I came home. I won a game of bingo covering the card. K. did not win.

Storm clouds are in the area but have had just a few drops of rain.

BIX Foundation repair company stopped by today to give me an estimate. They said that I do not need to have piers installed.

Have a thankful Thursday!

Good afternoon Claudie,

Well, the storm hit us pretty good overnight. Have a full rain gauge today. That is about 5 1/2 inches. Some local roads are flooded. We had gusts to just over 50 MPH last night too. The worst is done now. Still windy, but we have a break in the rain. The storm will only slowly move so we will have the lingering effects well into tomorrow.
The area I had the injection is still a bit tender, and I feel not real positive effects yet. Probably will not begin to feel the positives until Saturday. Hoping by Sunday or Monday to feel much better. Have a follow up in two weeks.

Good morning, WKGaser, Dino, MidnightSun, yankie, pink, JM, mnjrfan, org, TUrtLE, scout, and grmoore!

Dino, GRRRRRR is right! Hope they can find the problem with the car soon! Thank for the Q song from Dino's jukebox. I know that one. :)

MidnightSun, thanks for the continued prayers for Mom. Hoping she'll be released today. Sounds like another inside day for you; have fun with your new video game!

JM, nice that you're so optimistic about Sunday's game. Sure hoping your prediction happens. :)

mnjrfan, aaawww, too bad! No raking leaves for you today! I can tell you're disappointed. NOT! :) Well, since it's raining, you'll probably have to wait a few more days after it stops so the leaves can dry out. Hope you have some inside stuff to do today.

org, thanks for today's history tidbit. :)

TUrtLE, yes, I believe Mom's doing well; hoping her potassium and sodium numbers are close to 'normal' today and we can get her home. Thanks for today's funny. :)

scout, hope those 2 extra pieces of tile don't take long to arrive.

grmoore, wow! You really ARE going to be busy (the next few nights) with your announcing! So this basketball game...is it a 'regular' season one or just an exhibition-type game? Good luck to all 3 teams!

WKGaser, yankie, and pink, thanks for stopping in!

Okay, so this day is kind of in limbo as hubby and I wait to see if/when Mom can go home. We're guessing maybe later this afternoon. Surely hoping so!

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Thursday! 43 degrees this morning.

Another early morning so I'll be out of here on my way to drive myself to the CDC main campus for another series of meetings.

re: cc - not a Target CC, but all cards were compromised at Target and various other places. We learned about when the card was declined when my wife went shopping. She came home and checked the card on line to see there was a charge at Target in NY. I called the credit card company - affiliated with the Pentagon Federal Credit Union (who is great; any suspect charge they call contact us) who cancelled and reissued the card - will be here on Saturday.
Tonight starts my busy evening/weekend sporting events. The basketball kickoff is tonight at 7:00. Tomorrow is the next home volleyball match, and on Saturday Georgia State hosts Georgia Southern. Busy times as we continue our PA Announcing vocation.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Claudie,
Your mom sounds like she's doing well if she was ready to watch the World Series.

Why are you yelling that?

A painting contractor was speaking with a woman about her job.

In the first room, she said she would like a pale blue.

The contractor wrote this down and went to the window, opened it, and yelled out "green side up!"

In the second room, she told the painter she would like it painted in a soft yellow.

He wrote this on his pad, walked to the window, opened it, and yelled "green side up!"

The lady was somewhat curious, but she said nothing.

In the third room, she said she would like it painted a warm rose color.

The painter wrote this down, walked to the window, opened it and yelled "green side up!"

The lady then asked him, "Why do you keep yelling 'green side up'?"

"I'm sorry," came the reply. "But I have a crew of blondes laying sod across the street.

Happy Thursday!

On this date, in 1946, the United Nations General Assembly convened in New York for the first time.

Welcome to Thursday, Claudie! It's all about timing!

Happy Thursday morning Claudie!

Appears there may not be any yard work for me today, it's raining. I haven't checked the forecast yet, just the current weather, but I believe I heard in the background yesterday someone said today should be clear and warmer later in the day! Hope so because I feel a bit of yard work withdrawal symptoms going on inside!! HA!

JMBoykinII, your team must be playing the Vikings this weekend! HA!

Have a great day everyone! Later

Good morning Claudie!

Hope your mom is doing well in the hospital. Prayers for her release.

More nice and gentle rain fell today. Like that it does stop at various times so the ground can absorb it. Going to be a long bleak week w/overcast and rain day and night, right thru Sunday.

Hope to have sunny days next week w/temps in the low 60's (17°C). Will wrap the base of my house about 4' up in plastic. Also a few feet of the lawn. This so when the snow arrives, it can be blown again the house and add further insulation. Helps the heating bill noticeably.

Bumped into my pal the auto mechanic and explained the situation w/the Neon. He wants to tow it and work on it in hois shop. There is a dead spot on the 2 year old nea starter.

Or some other issue, such as the neutral safety switch. Not sure a few hundred bucks, plus new tires, reg and Ins is worth it. Will mull it over. The Dart has under 5,300 miles.

Bought turbocharged Dart brand new July 11. 2013 after looking at cars for a entire year. Notebook in hand. Why rush in and err?

Took a drive to see my pal the meat mgr at his store in Whitefield. He has Tues and Wed off. Did speak to the meat cutter about some flank and shoulder cuts.

Bought a nice mix of ground beef and pork combo for $2.99 a lb. May make meatballs of meatloaf. No need to jump into a meal plan w/o pondering about for a few days.

Cooked the last 2 unfrozen wild caught cod purchased for $4.99. Steamed some carrots, then nuked the red, yellow bell peppers ,onions, and green beans made a few days ago.

Still have plenty of uncooked veggies left from last week such as Brussel Sprouts that need to be cooked. The rain is easy to inspire cooking.

Began to learn how to play the newly arrived Star Craft II game. Graphic athe orchestra music are superb. The step by step tutorial and beginners game play slowly allow one to learn the ins and outs of this fantastic game.

Ths ISS orbits by early tonight at 6:52 PM for those who do not have overcast. See it in your area.

Civil twilight is 6:41 AM EDT. Night is 6:18 PM.

Sunrise: 7:11AM. Set: 5:48 PM.

Length of day: 10h 37m. Length of visible light: 11h 36m. Tomorrow will be 2m 53s shorter.

The temp is 46° (8°C), the high will be 50° (10°C) w/rain on and off. Our Mt Washington (6,288' 1916 m) sees snow. So far the rain is a slow, steady rain.

Have a fantastic day!

Good evening/morning Claudie

Driving into work tonight Speedway was advertising $3.00 even. That's $2.97 with the reward card. Now how low can we go?

The saga continues.

Got a call last week from the garage that I've taken the Dodge to for the pesky blinker problem. They came up with an idea to reprogram the codes on the power module using a computer from a former dealership they are in touch with in Parkersburg. I'd heard of the dealership and decided "At this point, what do we have to lose?" Mrs. K took it down today and, yes, you guessed it. Same result. To quote our own ohyeah, "GRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Now the mechanic wants to take a couple of days to trace the wiring and look a bit closer on the situation. They said they wouldn't order a new part for the fact that they can't return it unlike the used parts they've tried. Luckily, the mechanic did not charge us today since they didn't get the problem fixed. But I know he's got to be as frustrated as we are.

With all this in mind, I'm taking tomorrow night off meaning you get Dino's Jukebox tonight. The "Q" artist does not have "Queen" in their name anywhere.

Tonight's tune comes from the year 1966 and has been claimed to be the tune that started the punk rock movement. The band took it's name from a 1957 Japanese film titled "The Mysterian" in which aliens from the destroyed planet Mysteroid try to conquer planet Earth.

The song was a #1 smash in 1966 selling over a million copies and is ranked #213 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest rock songs of all time. The band is headed by lead singer Rudy Martinez who officially goes by the name "Question Mark" or "?" I guess he beat Prince to being referred to as a symbol by over 30 years.

Q - Question Mark & The Mysterians - "96 Tears"

Have a great weekend buddies. If all goes well, see you Monday night at the earliest.

Good evening, yankie, dickc49, Robustus, and sandipaws!

yankie, thanks for stopping in!

dick, glad the shot made you feel better; hope it lasts a while. Remind me again how long that rainy, windy weather is supposed to be there.

Robustus, sounds like you had a really good day with your dad. Nice that he bought you breakfast, lunch, gas for your car and groceries. I know that really helped you out. Thanks for the prayers for Mom.

sandipaws, thanks, too, for the thoughts for Mom. I talked to her one last time today about 7:30 PM. Everything was still fine and she was getting ready to watch the World Series, Game 2. Speaking of the weather...yours sounds very similar to ours. Oh, well, it IS Fall! :)

Time for me to sign out for the night.

Good night, everybuddy!

Good evening (evening, already!) Claudie!

Glad to hear to good report on your mother! I hope it continues to get better for all of you! Continued prayers for you!

Had a busy day off work, but working for Dad. He showed up shortly after 8 this morning. This time we did make plans for today rather than him showing up by surprise. He wanted to go grocery shopping but needed my help. So, he was nice to treat me to breakfast. Then, we went out my store to shop. I was pushing a separate cart to load stuff I wanted while he rode one of those scooters around (of course, I have to chase after him.) Then, to my surprise he insisted to buy my groceries for me. So, I got to spin the wheel that we offer for the customers/guests who spend $75 or more. I had bad luck. I ended up hitting the "Aww Schucks!" Then, they let me try again, and I hit again. So, they gave me a coupon to try it again next time I shop. I was hoping to get the 25¢ off/gal. of gas rewards since we already earned 10¢ shopping today. That would have made it 35¢ off. Oh well, hopefully when I spin next time, I might get it! I got 30 days before the 10¢ goes off and if we do more shopping we'll add to it. (Remember, I mentioned that at my store, you earn 5¢ off/gal. (10¢ for employees) for every $100 you spend, but don't have to spend the $100 all at once. I forget how much I have to spend to get the next 10¢.

Anyway, since we were out that way, my dad is somehow making payments at the facility where Mom's at. I was unaware he was doing that. I thought we were fighting that. Perhaps, maybe he decided to do that so, they stop pestering us. He can't afford much, but something is better than nothing. Anyway, the lady who takes care of the payments was at lunch while I was there. So, I popped into visit Mom while I waited and Dad waited in the car. Since Dad was waiting, I only spent about 15 minutes there and then I was able to make the payment on the way out.

Then after that was all set and done. I went back over to my place to drop off my groceries. I had to go all the way over to my dad's house to carry in his. Then, he took me back home, but he was nice enough to get my car filled up. I paid $2.94/gal. at the BJ's near me. It was nice that it wasn't over $50 this time! My car was almost bone dry because the warning light came on when I was coming home last night. Then, one last nice thing my dad did was buy me a BBQ plate at the new Smithfiled's Chicken 'n Bar-B-Q restaurant (it is a NC based BBQ chain with mostly locations throughout central and eastern NC which serves the Eastern style NC version.) So, even though the stubbornness I usually put up with ended not being the case today. It was his turn to treat me than me doing things for him. The only thing about that is now he spends all his SS money right away and by the time the month passes by, he'll be out of food again.

Wow, I didn't realize I got this chatty with you. Actually, I didn't go this much in detail over at the Café this time.

Again, glad to see the improvement in your Mom's condition. Still praying and hoping things only get better!
