Good morning Claudie!

Ya skipped me yesterday. 1:37 AM

Entertained myself playing StarCraft in the wee hours after my rounds and posts were completed. Later there was a problem with my internet connection.

The modem kept resetting itself and was up running 2-3 minutes before another reset occurred. Phoned FairPoint, my ISP, and reported this issue. The tech gal tested the line and net from Texas and showed a major problem somewhere.

Techs will test the line and come top the house tomorrow Kind of like this problem. It means a phone call to the biz office will get me a discount of half the usual months cost of $27.99 for 7 Mbps.

Ate the last of the beef stew. Simmered some basmati rice, made Julienne carrots and green beans nuked in the Pyrex mixing bowl. Cooked two of the cod, ate one, and has the leftovers in the fridge.

Will finish the cod, then make a crock dinner w/6-8 servings this week. Have lots of rice. Perhaps it is time for shrimp fried rice along w/a ton of veggies. Also thawed out a 1.5 lb pkg of ground pork sirloin roast. One year ago it was bought for $1.59 a lb. Dbl that these days.

Went outdoors twice after the rain ended at 10 AM. Raw as could be. Damp to the bone. The temp was 39 (4C) at 10:30. At 12:30 is was barely better at 41 (5C), the high for the day. Going to have to get used to the coming deep freeze.

Can hear lots of shots in the distance during the day. They are hunters firing their riffles during this now in full swing hunting season. The shots will ring out until December.

Civil twilight is 6:38 AM EDT. Night is 6:23 PM.

Sunrise: 7:07AM. Set: 5:53 PM.

Length of day: 10h 45m. Length of visible light: 11h 44m. Tomorrow will be 2m 55s shorter.

The temp is 38° (5°C), the high will be 51 (11°C) in partly cloudy skies.

Have a pleasant day!

Good evening Claudie!

Feel really good after that relaxing but lazy day yesterday.

However, I took Mom out after church this afternoon. I ended up doing what I mentioned I wanted to do yesterday. As usual, she enjoyed every minute of it!

Another Falcons loss makes for a sad afternoon for me. :(

Hello, attitash, dickc49, kathybye, and SteelPenny!

attitash, glad you got all the leaves raked today. Are there many more on the trees still? Yeah, not surprised about your picking the Falcons to lose. They didn't look good.

dick, that's good that you can use the leaf blower extension to get the leaves out of the gutter. That's always a not-very-much-liked job around here, too. Hope you've been enjoying the football games!

kathybye, glad you were able to sell a few of the items you wanted gone. Since you're cleaning out more closets, will you maybe have another yard sale or will you just give all the stuff to the Salvation Army?

SteelPenny, alright! Congrats to WVU for getting into the Top 25 poll!

Claudie - According to what I read at USAToday.com in a coach's poll, Baylor dropped 9 spots from 4 to 13 and WVU moved up 8 places from nowhere to number 25. If I counted correctly, that means that 5 of the 10 schools in the BiG-12 are in the Top-25 football teams.

Wow! Overslept yesterday, so not early enough to get rid of some higher ticket items. Will sell the mini fridge on a "teacher swap" website, but did move a few items. Did donate a few items that salvation army will pick up next Friday.
I will be cleaning closets today since Salvation Army is coming & I have a few boxes.

Glad you enjoyed yourself at the ALF yesterday w/your Mom. I so enjoyed going to events with hubby's dad here for the 5 yr. he came to live closer to us. I do miss my parents, but realize they enjoyed living where they were. Speaking of homes, we still have not decided what we r doing w/parent's home.

It's a gorgeous day here, and yesterday was as well. We planted winter rye in the front yard. Many here have desert landscaping, and we have approximately 30% DESERT in the front, but our yard is small by rural standards. I love the tangelo tree in the front (original from former orchard). W/planting the grass, the water serves 2 purposes. Our orange tree in the back (original tree from the orchard here 22 years ago prior to community being buit)developed a fungus, so we removed it.

We have a small lemon and grapefruit tree on the side of the house, and are deciding what we will plant in the SPring

Good afternoon Claudie,

Well, we had some pop up showers before I got outside to mow and mulch, so it did not get done. Did run a few errands however. Found one item I wanted but had to come home and order the other. Ordered a kit to add extensions to my leaf blower with a 180° turn at the end so I can stick it up just over the gutters and blow out the leaves. Beats getting out the heavy ladder and climbing two stories. I can put up the light aluminum one, and then stick it up ten feet over my head and do the work. Don't really like heights, and with the sore back I don't want to move the heavy 36' Fiberglas type 3 ladder. This will work well, and be easier on me.

Today I am watching the NFL even though the Pats have played, I still like watching it. I just do not have to get emotionally involved in any one game. Do not really care who wins, just want to see some good football!

Good afternoon Claudie...tackled yard work this morning(mostly raking leaves) so I am free to watch some football. Mix of sun & cloudy with a chilly high of 7°C/44.6°F. Good luck to your Falcons. Did pick them to lose but I can be wrong. Have a super day.

Hello, senile, JM, Scanman, and Farful!

senile, thanks for stopping in!

JM, sounds like a fun time next weekend in Cincinnati! Have a safe trip home today!

Scanman, same here...another spectacular day, weather-wise, that is...sunshiny, almost 70°, a dew point of 46°, and no wind. Nice!

Farful, no frost in site for us yet, though, some of the nighttime temps will get in the low 40s.

Okay!

Time to go!

Good morning, WKGaser, Robustus, grmoore, mnjrfan, TUrtLE, and org!

WKGaser, thanks for stopping in!

Robustus, you were VERY busy last week (and not just with work!), so a slow, lazy day is a good thing. :)

grmoore, yeah, I saw where GSU couldn't hang on there in the end. Too bad, too; I thought they had it and then the other team scored a TD. :( BTW, good picture of you!

mnjrfan, I know about heating a house with a wood-burning stove. That's what we used to use before we put in central heat. We used to get a big dump-truck-like-loadful at this time of year and then another, maybe, in January. Of course, we didn't use as much as your brother does. :) I loved the smell of the wood burning in the stove, and I miss it to this day. :) Okay! The race today is in Talledega! That's actually not that far from Atlanta...straight out west on I-20. Hubby will be catching bits and pieces of the race as we also watch the Falcons play today. Do you like football, too?

TUrtLE, aaahhh! Such a calming movie today with that piano music and the colors of the pix! Thanks for sharing!

org, thanks for today's history tidbit. Oh, yeah, I see that the Panthers play in GB today. Good luck to them.

Staying home today. I have 'things' to finish up and then hubby and I will be watching (on TV) the Falcons play at Baltimore in 1 PM; he'll check out the race at commercial times. :) Other than that, no other special plans. :)

On this date, in 1781, British General Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington at Yorktown, Va., bringing an end to the last major battle of the American Revolution.

Good Morning Claudie,
Perfect that you had sunshine and could sit outside with your mom at ALF yesterday.

Your Sunday movie is entitled Autumn is Near, from Chee Chee Martin.

The music is "Sweetness and Light" by Chuck Brown.

The movie is shorter than stated unless you want to listen longer to the music. After the credits there is a poem which concludes the graphics.

May you have a peaceful autumn Sunday!

Good morning Claudie!

Yesterday I packed up the girls and we headed north to my brothers for the day. Made two trips each with our p/u's over to his inlaws farm for dry wood. He heats his place by wood stove. He'll need another 25 or so loads to make it through the winter. Got home about 10:30ish last night. Must've gotten a pretty good workout cause I'm feeling pretty sore this morning. The girls are still sleeping, maybe I should be too! Oh well... Can't sleep!

Talladega today! (NASCAR)

Have a great day! Later

Good morning Claudie!

Almost got used to the feeling of the racing. It was the loud sound that bothered me.

The diltiazem, 240 mg a day, for my heart palpitations is working fabulously. No longer 150 beats per minute since the first was taken on Friday morn. Could sleep easily and worry free. Perfect!

Enjoyed some StarCraft battles, then some TV Shows on Netflix. Watch 20 minutes of The Following pilot. Liked the escape, found the following 10 minutes of character build up to be boring. Watched an episode of Criminal Minds, which kept my attention gigantically.

The cod on sale at Shaw's, this w/e only was too big a savings to stay away from. Took a drive south on Rt 135 beside the CT River to see much of the sugar maple leaves knocked to the ground and water by the pouring rain.

Did get some pix the other day while the leaves were still green w/a light hue of color. No spectacular colors this year, due to the lack of rain for the past month.

Bought 4 more pieces of wild caught cod some of the 16oz cans of Campbells soups for $1 ea, and a HFCS free loaf of Shaw's bread. Still considering the six dbl wide rolls of paper towels for $5.99. That sale remains trough Thursday.

Picked up my mail at the PO, then returned home. Had a meal of scrumptious cod, veggies and a healthy salad for my late lunch/dinner combo. Removed 1 24 oz container of soup from the freezer and replaced the space w/the new cod.

It rained on the severe side of moderate much of the day. Listened to the online radio of my fave station and looked through the pix taken all year. Will upload a few every couple of days by Monday's post.

Civil twilight is 6:36 AM EDT. Night is 6:24 PM.

Sunrise: 7:06 AM. Set: 5:55 PM.

Length of day: 10h 48m. Length of visible light: 11h 47m. Tomorrow will be 2m 57s shorter.

The temp is 43° (6°C), our high for the day in overcast skies w/a 40% chance of rain.

Have a splendid day!

Greeting Claudie/friends:

Happy Sunday! Up late watching the last of the college football games. Wow, what a finish for the Georgia State and Florida State games.

The Panthers came up short and the Noles hung on.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Stone Mountain Highland games. We will return tomorrow afternoon. Yep, bagpipes.

re: Henry County Times - yeah, it was such a busy week I forgot to post the link.
Where in the world is the Times (and Glenn)? Thanks for noticing!

Time to get some sleep.

Hiya, SteelPenny and fliper!

SteelPenny, I was going to ask what conference WVU was in, but you just answered it! :) Okay, so their record is now 5 and 2, with 5 more games to go. Hmmmm, ya know, since you said the conference title is really up in the air, well, maybe WVU will be number 1! Gotta think positive!

fliper, goon night? Huh? Okay! Okay! I know that was a typo, and you meant good night! Glad you got to stop in anyway! :)

Time for me to sign off for the night.

Good night, everybuddy!

Claudie - If I remember correctly, going into the game WVU was 4-2 and Baylor was 6-0. Today's game would be number 7 for each team and they're both in the BiG-12 which has 10 teams. I think each team plays every other conference school plus 3 out-of-conference games. That would be 12 total and now they've played 7, so that means 5 more games (all of them BiG-12 conference games). Right now, the BiG-12 Conference title is up in the air. ie: almost any team could win it.

Hiya, SteelPenny and Mrs. Wrench!

SteelPenny, yup! I was following that Baylor/WVU score online. Great win for your team! How many more games are there for the season?

Mrs. Wrench, yes, there were lots of things for the kids to do, including pumpkin decorating (small ones), sand art; there was also an inflatable thing there, too. I believe they also had a costume contest. Lots of kids there. :) A nor-easter coming? Is that the same one dick was talking about? Hope you don't lose the rest of your veggies either.

Good evening Claudie, sounds like a good time was had at the ALF, I'm sure your mom enjoyed you & hubby come to it. Is this the one where they have a lot going on for the kids?

It has been beautiful here today but the weather report has said we are to get that nor-easter also & something about dropping into the 30's with frost, we still have about 8 -10 egg plant+ flowers on the bushes, tomatoes, peppers & lettuce in the garden hope we don't get frost or we'll lose them.

A friend that I worked with for 22 years just lost her husband so we went to the viewing & service this morning, in was a bit windy at the cemetery. She just had her 4th back surgery. I sure won't go to that doctor to do my surgery, I went to him a few years ago & we didn't like his bedside manner.

Back from the open house/festival at the ALF, and what a gorgeous day it is for it! Sunshiny, about 75° and a slight breeze. Nice!

It was just hubby and me who showed up there from my family, but we had a good time sitting with Mom, just talking and eating lunch. It was so good to be sitting out in that wonderful sunshine!

Hello, attitash, Farful, dickc49, Scanman, and TC!

attitash, that many trees? Whoooeee! Lotsa leaves! Do ya have any with red leaves? Those are my faves. :) Hope it doesn't rain too much today so you can get started on those leaves.

Farful, our yard work is going to be done on Monday.

dick, hope you can get your leaves taken care of, too, before the bad weather moves in. No rain predicted here for at least this whole coming week. Just ALL sunshine!

Scanman, it was a nice morning/early afternoon. :)

TC, thanks for stopping in!

Good morning Claudie,

Looking at mulching up what I can of the leaves in the yard today. I will also use the small battery powered blower to blow the walks, decks, and the like into the lawn area so I can chop up those leaves too. Will have to do a bit and stop, do a bit and stop as the walking will catch up with me over time. Looking at about 70 or a bit more with dew points in the high 50's. Late tonight a front comes through and tomorrow we will be in the low to mid 50's for the week with a nor'easter due in Wednesday for the better part of three days.

Good morning Claudie.....hoped to tackled the growing number of leaves on the ground today....planted 12 maples 23yrs ago. With a forecast of showers through the day & a high of 9°C/48.2°F I will have to do indoor tasks & hope to deal with the leaves tomorrow. Have a great day.

Good morning, org and grmoore!

org, I knew about the Mason-Dixon Line, but didn't know when it came into being. I wonder why that picked that spot.

grmoore, hey! Guess what? You got your picture in the HC Times! You're famous!! Pipe bands? I'm guessing that's as in bagpipes. I love to listen to them! Great news about the volleyball team! Do they have much longer in their season? Not-so-good news about the upcoming football game; I'll follow the game online and hope they don't get blown out.

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Saturday! 58 degrees this morning.

Up a bit earlier this morning (for a Saturday) because we're going out to Stone Mountain to see some of the Highland Games Festivities. They brought back the Pipe Bands and the Army National Guard Band also will perform. I participated as the Drum Major for the Army Ground Forces Band (back when I was on active duty) for several years in the late 90's.

Last night, the Georgia State volleyball team won another match 3 games to 1 over Texas State. The team is showing steady improvement and have now won more matches than last year with a few more matches left in the season. Next home match will be next Friday night.

The Georgia State football team travels to and plays the University of South Alabama. I don't expect it to be a fun time for the Panthers. They aren't playing well due in part to lots of injuries and another suspension (academic violation) of at least one key player.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good morning, yankie, Robustus, MidnightSun, keywest, mnjrfan, JM, and senile!

Robustus, sorry to hear about the number of hours you have scheduled next week. Hopefully, in the coming weeks, that number will increase. Glad to hear you took your mom somewhere yesterday. Like I have said before, you don't have to do anything fancy; even a 30 minute car ride up and down the streets is good!

MidnightSun, that must have been scary having your heart rate so fast! Glad that the ER doctor prescribed you some meds to help.

mnjrfan, it's supposed to be a gorgeous Fall weekend here, so I'm hoping for an awesome time!

JM, will you be going to Cincinnati to see Alex's band perform next weekend?

yankie, keywest, and senile, thanks for stopping in!

Today is the ALF's Fall Festival, and, thank goodness, it's going to be a gorgeous day for it...sunny and about 75°. Hubby and I will be going about 11 and staying for a while. It's always great to see everybuddy having such a fun time. :)

Hi Claudie. My plans changed and we did not leave Chattanooga until 4. Alex's band is performing next weekend at Kings Island in Cincinnati and that had a mandatory practice.

Good morning Claudie!

Saw the highlights 3z. Looks like the Pats took command from the onset. Then the Jets tried a come and could not.

Have my heart set on walking up 2 stairs at a time for my own PT.

Went to lay down after my early morning rounds and posts to get in a nap. All that could be heard was my heart racing and the sound echoing off the mattress from the pillow into my ears.

Drove to the hospital ER and saw the doc. Told him the sound was keeping me from sleeping and worrying me. Asked him to look up the heart specialist recommendations and results.

In under 30 minutes there was a call to Lancaster's Rite Aid for a Rx. Drove the 10 minutes to the pharmacy and had the script of diltiazem 240 mg a day waiting for me.

The pills are normally $60 for a 30 day script. It was an amazing $1.20 w/my AARP Plus coverage plan. Did not have another episode of palpitations since taking the med at 9 AM yesterday. Think the taking the medication is a prudent decision.

Stopped at Shaw's for their w/e super sale. Wild, caught at sea, cod is $4.99 a lb. Purchased 4 pieces with thick loins. Normal price is $7.99 alb. Saved about 40% on the sale.

Fried up in evoo a large amount of red, orange, and red bell peppers. After a few minutes same sized chucks of yellow onion were added. Last 8 ounces of baby bella mushrooms were stirred in.

Had a delightful amount of cod, pepper jack cheese melted on top along w/the stir fried veggies. Like that extra was prepared for left overs all w/e. Also bought asparagus for the low cost of $1.88 a lb. Lots of veggie varieties this week to enjoy at mealtime.

The ISS orbits by the East Coast early at 6:11 tonight. See it in your neighborhood along with the other satellites.

Civil twilight is 6:35 AM EDT. Night is 6:26 PM.

Sunrise: 7:05 AM. Set: 5:56 PM.

Length of day: 10h 51m. Length of visible light: 11h 50m. Tomorrow will be 2m 56s shorter.

The temp is 48° (9°C), the high to be 61° (16°C) in overcast skies w/a 40% chance of rain.

Have a tremendous day!

Good evening Claudie!

Another full day with work and Mom.

Still having a difficult time remember what that was the nurse mentioned they checked. I always have trouble remembering things like that. Like I said yesterday, we briefly talked about it.

Work was rather slow again for a Friday. I think since the NC State Fair began last night or today that it takes away our business. One person jokingly said when I asked where is everyone. He replied by saying "everyone is at the fair." It would seem like we would be busier since my store is located right off the Interstate.

Anyway, it was a gorgeous day here. It started off chilly down into the 40's this morning. Chilly enough that I had to turn on the heat in my car on the way to work. However, once the sun got up bright in the sky, it turned out to be a "perfect" fall day! That is why I decided to take Mom out when I got over to see her today. Unfortunately, we only we went out to eat and didn't have much time to do anything else. I would like to do some grocery shopping tomorrow and she would like to tag along. So, I'll probably get her out once again tomorrow.

I had a great time this evening with her. I went over to drop off something for my dad (I know.) But, it was funny I was trying to get my cell phone to give directions back to Mom's place. (I know the way, but I was curious if it had a quicker way.) My cell phone has this Google Text-to-Speech feature similar to the iPhone's Siri. In other words, you push a button and then speak what you want and it is supposed to respond to your voice. Some things you speak to it, responds verbally. For example, you can ask it what temperature it is outside, and then it responds saying "The current temperature in Gibsonville is 68 degrees." Anyway, I had trouble getting it to respond and my mom was giggling at my straining my voice to get it to recognize me. It was great to hear her giggle. It reminds me on she used to giggle at the silliest things. That made me feel good to see her react like that!

Well, I guess that's all the fun for today! Off work til Tuesday now. Another miserable schedule for next week with only 16 hours. I really need to get serious regarding a second job which perhaps through that Goodwill service I mentioned.
