People involved try to ski or snowboard across the pond...believe it`s 100feet. The trick is to have enough speed to carry you across & have your weight back on the skis. A tradition at many ski hills. Have a good night.

Okay!

Things are done; lunch is completed. Now hubby's settled in front of the TV, waiting for the race to start. Such is our Sunday afternoon. :)

I just found out a little while ago that Alhana will be coming for a visit next week; it's her Spring Break, the same as around here. She'll be coming Friday evening (I think) and staying until the next Friday evening. Hoping to be able to get her some time with Jake and Emma, though they'll be going somewhere from Thursday til Sunday (next week).

Another thing....many, many years ago we were fortunate enough to have had a foreign exchange student from Denmark live with us for the school year (hmmmm, I believe it was actually 25 years ago). Anyway, she (her name is Mette), her husband, their 2 kids, and his 2 daughters all came to our country for a long vacation; they arrived in Miami the 21st and stayed overnight before going to the Gulf Coast until this past Thursday; that day, they went to Orlando and stayed until today. They are probably on their way north now....to here....and plan to stay with a school friend until April 9th. This school friend lives about 30 minutes south of us. I mention all this b/c we will definitely get to see her several times while she'd here, and it's going to be really cool b/c Jake, Emma, and Alhana will get to meet her kids, who are 9 and 7 and speak very little English. It'll be a great experience for everybuddy!

Hello, grmoore, attitash, Farful, munchkins_mom, and hmcsretired07!

grmoore, aaawww, too bad the softball team lost both games. :( As for the ND/UK game, as good as Kentucky supposedly is, I was kind of surprised that they only won by 2. Now, from your explanation, I guess I see WHY they won. Calipari? I am guessing he's on Kentucky, but is that the coach or a player?

attitash, puddle jump? Hmmmm, that doesn't sound too exciting to me. How does that work (I couldn't find an explanation for it; just the camera views...and camera 1 shows like there are a LOT of people there)?

Farful, they ate alligator? <shudders> Oh, yuck! Nice that you were able to visit with so many people yesterday. Even better that you and K did alright at the slot machines.

munchkins_mom, aaahhh, so this new car is for you! Nice! Good luck!

hmcsretired, thanks for stopping in!

Hi Claudie, I think I'm down to two cars. I like the Subaru's. I'm going to decide today, I think, between the Outback and the Forester. Wish me luck.

Good morning Claudie and All!

Claudie, Glad that you made it to Jake and Emma's soccer games. Bet they enjoyed to have you cheering them on for their wins too.

I can hear the wind blowing outside. It has been gusting at my place.

It was a sunny day for a nice trip to Burlington, Iowa yesterday.. The catfish at Catfish Bend Casino was tasty too. I won a few dollars playing penny slot machines there. K. broke even. Timed it just right to have a visit with friends at the buffet.

Visited relatives and friends at brother-in-law's place yesterday. They had just got home from visiting Louisiana. They enjoyed their vacation and visited my son and his wife who live in New Orleans. They visited Bourbon Street in New Orleans. They had some spicy food of alligator and Po Boy..

Happy Palm Sunday!

Good morning Claudie...sunny day ahead with a high of 3°C/37.4°F. Above freezing!!!! Still too cold for cycling to work but perhaps next week. Puddle Jump occurs today on the final day at the ski hill. I have never considered taking part in this event...would take all summer for the ski boots to dry out! Have a great day.

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Sunday! 29 degrees this morning; brr!.

The Panthers played nip and tuck for both games yesterday losing 8-7 in the first game and 13-11 in the second. They had chances to win both games, but couldn't get it done.

I didn't get the lawn mowed yesterday as both games went very long. We'll see what today holds.

Interesting game last night between UK and ND. Candidly, ND outplayed the Cats for nearly the entire game and certainly were more deserving of the win than UK. First of all I will state I'm not a ND fan, but UK, as has been typical, were the recipient of several (at least two) foul calls/non-calls that made a difference in the game: a shot that was called a block that was clearly a foul at the rim, and a blocking foul that was clearly a charge by UK. This stated, ND's shot selection with 6 seconds remaining wasn't the best so UK clearly escaped with the win when they deserved to be watching from home next week. Finally, Calipari was arrogant in the post game press conference, something that is inexcusable!

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Ooops!

I just missed org and dick!

Hey, y'all!

org, wow! Cool info about Niagara Falls! I wonder how long it remained entirely frozen.

dick, what? Your son eats more bacon than you do? Well, I guess you passed that trait on to him then! LOL! Have a good volunteer session today!

Good morning Claudie,

<chuckle> My son and wife go more often than I do. They DO know him! I did get a good helping of BACON though. Son eats more than anyone I know.

Heading out to Maine Adaptive in a few minutes so I am making this brief.

On this date, in 1848, for the first time in recorded history, Niagara Falls stopped flowing. An ice jam in the Niagara River above the rim of the falls caused the water to stop.

Welcome to Palm Sunday, Claudie!

Good morning, munchkins_mom, JCTRAIL, MidnightSun, yankie, senile, fliper, JM, and TUrtLE!

munchkins_mom, good luck with the car shopping! Do you have something special in mind?

MidnightSun, Fuller's Sugarhouse looks interesting. I bet dick would enjoy that place, too. Whoo! Quite a price for that maple syrup! No wonder dick makes his own!

fliper, wow! That was TOO early!

JM, yup! The starters all rested and the 'bench' got some playing time against the Hornets. Another GB/FB friend, CSQUARED, said he thinks the Hawks have about 10 games left. Hope the coach doesn't rest the starters for all those games either.

TUrtLE, aahhh, thanks for the wonderful Sunday movies! :)

JCTRAIL, yankie, and senile, thanks for stopping in!

Staying home today. :)

Good Morning Claudie,

Today is Palm Sunday.
The first movie is a short clip, 1:38 minutes showing the triumphal entrance of Jesus riding on the back of a donkey into Jerusalem.

The second selection is A New Day with music performed by Ernesto Cortazar. If you have time you may want to watch the graphics...good ones.

May you be blessed today!

Good morning, Claudie. I read that the Hawks did not start their starters. They must be satisfied with the number of wins. I hope that this was just for one game.

Happy Palm Sunday Claudie!

Know well the cutting power of the bitter wind. Will try moth balls as the deterrent. Have metal chicken wire to cover the area afterwards .

Visited my pal the meat mgr in Whitefield to discover he had a vacay in Kansas City all week. His wife and him enjoyed the 75° (24°C) and the beauty of the area. Was surprised that my hands did not grab the low priced meats and left empty handed.

Went to Shaw's for their w/e specials. Bought reduced low fat 4 Italian shredded cheese for $1.77 for 8 oz's, All 2 liter coke products were $1. These two item offered bonus tickets to the come on game "80 Million in Prizes" Monopoly playing coast to coast.

Stopped at my PO to pick up my mail. Got a letter from some unknown that misspelled mt name and wrote the town as "Landcaster" (sic). Had the Postmaster return to sender: refused. Sure did not have that good feeling to it. The second letter sent from the same person/address.

Thought of the cheese for $3.54 a lb and returned to the store to buy 6 more in the 8 oz pkgs. One get a ticket for the transaction plus 1 for each additional item. The price of the cheese is the 2nd lowest ever.

Drove to the Fuller's Sugarhouse (see the 3m s video inc the entire operation). Was greeted by hosts Ed, Dave abd Patti Fuller, their now adult children and a few similling young ladies.

The gift shop and the sugar house were packed w/ people itching to get on a fine spring day. Had a wonderful coffee w/maple syrup as the sugar, plain homemade donuts to dunk, and a cone of maple syrup on snow, all gratis.

Took a tour of the section of the real post and beam building that sold sugaring tools, evaporators, lines, buckets accessories and has several reverse osmosis filters for sale.

Went in the boiling room w/their 3 y/o state of the art evaporator made of stainless steel, and non wood store firebox, a mere $90,000 investment.

Five weeks of sugaring is expected in the Lancaster area. Just 5 days ago was the first real sap flowing. They use a vacuum system. Thursday they boiled 9,000 gallons of sap to produce just 160 gallons of maple syrup.

The gift shop is stocked with nostalgia, paintings, maple sugar, candy, sampler's, and many items to fill its country charm store. Had a sample of local made blackberry jam. At $8.69 for 18 oz's, it is twice the price of the Amish jam sold at at Big Papa's Mkt for $4.50.

Educated the family on carrageenan. None was in their jam. Said it is a thickener found in many foods such as jellies, jam, meat, cookies, cakes, and dairy/ice cream products.

Same as adding two heaping tablespoons of Vaseline to hot chocolate to give it texture, thickening, and stabilizing agents. It increases shelf live. Many folks get stomach cramps from it.

A gallon of maple syrup this year at the Fuller Sugarhouse is a whopping $79.95. Half gallon $49.95 this year. Non commercial mom and pop sugar house sell a gallon in the $45 and up price range in my area.

Learned there is a new standardized grading system implemented in Canada and in the USA. This page has the new grades and maple sugar history.

The temp is 10° (-12°C) with the high to be 35° (2°C).

Civil twilight is 6:04 AM EST. Night is 7:38 PM.

Sunrise: 6:33 AM. Set: 7:09 PM.

Length of day: 12h 36m. Length of visible light: 13h 34m. Tomorrow will be 3m 05s longer.

Have a blessed day!

Hi Claudie, it's another busy day here for us. I went grocery shopping this morning around 6 am, then we all went for breakfast at the festival. Story had skating lessons and ballet and the boys (including my husband) attended the hockey game. Teagan and I stayed home with the dogs and watched on tv. Tomorrow we car shop.

Hello there, sandipaws!

I made sure I had extra clothes on when I went to the games...probably 2 layers and then the coat. The only thing I forgot was gloves, and I either stuck them in the pockets or scrunched them back into the sleeves. The temp actually would have been alright b/c it WAS beautifully sunny, but the durned wind was just a-blowin' about 15 mph! Ugh!

I'm warm now.

Okay then! Time for me to sign out for the night.

Good night, Buddies!

Good afternoon Claudie, just stopped by to post gas price & answer questions. Hope you had a good day so far. I'm going to check my mail & close the computer until we stop at the hotel tomorrow night. Daughter called to say she was getting Wrench a birthday cake & take it to her friends where we are having Easter dinner, she also said they were to get snow today. If all goes well we will be home late Monday, not sure what time we will leave in the morning but it's 531.85 to the hotel & 536.42 from there to home. A lot of driving for Wrench.

Hiya, dick!

Probably a good idea not to go skiing today, seeing that you really don't feel great. Hopefully you'll be able to go out tomorrow.

I'm glad to hear you got to go out to a buffet this morning. REALLY glad you got your BACON! Do you suppose the people at the buffet place had talked to Hop Sing (about the fact that you LOVE BACON)? :)

Good afternoon Claudie,

Staying in today as I just do not trust my back to last through tomorrow if I go out today. On top of that I am still draining this cold. Feel I am on the verge of a sinus infection, but if careful it might go away on its own. That is what I would prefer.

Went out to breakfast with my Wife, Son and his G/F. A full buffet like Carme's has. Did get my share of BACON, plus eggs, potatoes, and french toast.

Oh. My. Gosh!

Talk about cold!

I got back from Jake and Emma's games about an hour ago and I am STILL thawing out! I even had extra clothes on! The bad thing was that the wind was blowing!

Aaahhh, well! What we grandparents do for our grandkids!

The good news is that both of their teams won again, and Emma had a goal and an assist (to another goal); Jake mostly played the goalkeeper.

Hello, attitash, Farful, and grmoore!

attitash, good idea for you not to ride the bike today. Waaaay too cold, and there'll be time for that later.

Farful, have a fun time at the casino!

grmoore, mow the grass today? Isn't it too cold? Good luck to the girls as they play South Alabama today.

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Saturday! 38 degrees this morning - what a difference a day makes!

I had to buy a new lawnmower yesterday because our 10 year old one finally decided to no longer run. I think we got our money's worth out of it. We bought a 21" 3-1 Honda self-propelled using my 10% military retired discount. After some research, this mower was rated number one. I'll finish the minor required assembly and mow later this afternoon.

Last night I watched some of NCAA basketball tournament before growing tired and retiring to bed. Yeah, Kentucky will be tough to beat this year.

I have two softball games (1:00p & 3:00p) today with Georgia State hosting South Alabama, who is rated #24 in the collegiate ranks.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Claudie, Jake and Emma will be pleased to have you cheering them on during their soccer games. Keep warm and enjoy the games.

It is a chilly morning in the twenties. Should get above freezing with the sun out though. Taking a trip today to Burlington, Iowa. Want to have the buffet lunch at Catfish Bend Casino. Friends talked me in to going so we will have buffet lunch together and play penny slots after we eat. Probably will be crowded since the casino gives the card members $10 to play between 2:00 - 4:00 pm today.

Enjoy a sensational Saturday!

Good morning Claudie...recent thoughts of cycling to work (need to get the legs ready for the next ski season) taken away with a cold -13°C/8.6°F feeling like -22°C/-7.6°F to start the day. Looks like cycling will have to wait until April. A high of -2°C/28.4°F feeling like -8°C/17.6°F under sunny skies. Ski hill have not very spring like conditions to end the season! Have a great day.

Okay, I decided I'd give it a try and go to the kids' soccer games. Just gotta bundle up good.

Good morning, JM, senile, org, and sandipaws!

JM, yes, home court advantage in the games in the Eastern division, but probably not if we win the East and Golden State wins the West; we probably won't be able to catch them in the standings.

senile, thanks for stopping in!

org, aaahhh, yes! I remember the name Constantinople, but not Angora.

sandipaws, if it was only 15° here this morning, I would NOT be going to the soccer games! Not even if it was sunny and not windy!

Good morning, sandipaws, MidnightSun, yankie, TC, Lighting10K, and hmcsretired07!

MidnightSun, glad you were able to see where that squirrel was getting into the attic and you will be able to fix the hole yourself later. Good thing, too, that the rain wasn't able to get in the hole...that could have been a whole 'nother problem!

Lighting, sounds like TOT is having great sales! With it being a pretty nice day today, though a little chilly, hopefully it'll be another great sale day. Thanks for the video; will check it out shortly.

sandipaws, yankie, TC, and hmcsretired07, thanks for stopping in!

Well, Jake and Emma have soccer games this morning, one at 10 and one at 11. I'd like to go, but the problem is...right now it's only 36° and it's only supposed to get up to about 40° for game time. Thankfully the wind's not supposed to be blowing much and the sun will be shining brightly. I'll decide if I'm going to go, and, if I do, I better bundle up!

Good morning Claudie!

He just wants to stay at home and hike from his house. Perhaps later he'll change his mind and go elsewhere.

While it rained on and off this morning, had a fabulous time watching women's MMA bouts on youtube.com. Soon there will not be any matches of female warriors that has not been seen. These women are not sissies. They fight like h*ll to win each minute of each round.

Some rounds are three minutes, yet most are 3 five minute rounds w/a Championship Match being 5 five minute rounds. World Women Bantamweight (135 lb, 61 kg) Champ "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC [Ultimate Fighting Championship]) has signed to fight Brazilian undefeated challenger Bethe Correia (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in UFC 190’s pay-per-view main event on Aug. 1 in Rio de Janeiro.

Rousey has stated she to wants to embarrass Brazilian Correia in front of the fans in her home country. Makes for plenty of interest to the fans. And a higher gate for the promoters.

Kept hearing gnawing sounds the past few days around the outside dormer in my bdrm. Also heard scratching sounds. Went out during these sounds and saw a squirrel walking the steep slope of the gambrel dormer.

It did its chirping noise to me as a walk closer was done. In a minute it ran under a shingle and inside the outer shell of the dormer. Looked close and saw the creature ate thru my plywood roof, the asplat shingles, along w/a corner of the natural wood trim.

Was all upset it made a hole thru the bottom side of the dormer and it could heard in the attic. Can only imagine the insulation and framing damage the varmint made.

Saw the rain dripping over the bottom of the hole. At least rain and water are not entering the side roof wall. The bdrm floor is dry so this is not an urgent repair.

Spent the rest of the early afternoon looking up ways to rid the tiny beast and getting a game plan for late April to repair this standing on a ladder. Plan on waiting for it to leave then covering the hole w/a piece of plywood. Then repairing it correctly this summer.

This in hopes that when the warm weather arrives the creature will have another place to live and not gnaw to re-enter the house. Have an access panel just above the bathroom door to enter inside the roof. So the vacation will become work for a day or two.

Temp this morning is 28° (-2°C) with the high to be 33° (1°C).

Snow is expected today. A 40% chance.

Civil twilight is 6:05 AM EST. Night is 7:37 PM.

Sunrise: 6:35 AM. Set: 7:08 PM.

Length of day: 12h 33m. Length of visible light: 13h 31m. Tomorrow will be 3m 05s longer.

Have a tremendous day!

What was everybuddy watching while you were typing your message?

Oh, dear! I sure hope that egg turns out to be a baby eagle. <crosses fingers>

Time for me to sign out for the night.

Good night, Buddies!

Hi Claudie, everyone is in this room with me and watching tv. We have one egg left in the eagles nest and it appears to have cracked. Now we're waiting to see if they have a baby eagle or not this time around. And, it's snowing outside.

Hey, y'all! Come on over and visit The Roost in St. Louis!

Hello, Scanman, hmcsretired07, and Mrs. Wrench!

Scanman, well, you're already AT The Roost, right? :) As for your cannas, the red ones should be pretty even if the yellow ones don't bloom.

hmcsretired, thanks for stopping in!

Mrs. Wrench, things are going much better with Mom; the kidney doctor has found meds that will keep her sodium up...well, it has so far. Hoping that'll continue. Raining there? Oh, shoot! Hope you don't get too wet going out for that steak dinner! You're leaving Sunday, right? Well, if you don't get back here before then, have a safe trip!

Good afternoon Claudie, thought I'd better stop & say hello since I haven't dropped in in awhile. Hope all is going well with you. Hope things are going well with your Mom.

We've been very busy getting the trailer ready so we can leave, cleaning things up & packing & loading the van. Just showered & did my hair & make up so we can join some friends at the MOOSE tonight for a steak dinner. Now wouldn't you know it, it's pouring. Tomorrow I want to change the bed & get all the laundry done & the last minute things packed. We are sooo ready to hit the road & get back home.

Claudie...Not Sure! But almost all of them were soft and shriveled. Not a Good sign. I only had about 3 that came up last year and once they sprouted I began a "surgery" of them to split them and then transplant. Mite have been my most satisfying year, but it was a lot of work...

Think they are just getting tired and "ole"

Hello, grmoore, Farful, Scanman, dickc49, and kathybye!

grmoore, sure is a different weather day today, isn't it? That wind is crazy! As for the college games...looks like 2 of the games were kinda close, but the other 2 weren't, esp. the WVU/Kentucky one. Wow! What a blowout!

Farful, the sun's trying to come out here (b/c of the wind blowing the clouds away), but it sure is having a hard time! :( That wind makes it feel waaaay colder, too! Gas prices here in the area I live in are about $2.20/gallon.

Scanman, you did mention about the cannas, but not that you had planted them. Hmmmm, why do you think last year's batch looks so bad?

dick, it's getting colder here, too; mostly right now b/c the wind's blowing so much (about 20 mph consistently). The temp's about 50° but won't get much warmer. Tonight and tomorrow night, it's supposed to be down close to freezing. :( Hope the skiing's good this weekend.

kathybye, yes, you did mention that the doctor wants more PT sessions, and you were waiting to hear if the insurance company was going to allow it. I wonder how long you'll have to wait. Have a good time in Vegas!

Morning, Claudie and friends!

A day at home until 3 pm and meeting friends for an early dinner!

Glad you are enjoying your day at home. I will be home until Sunday AM. I'm leaving to join a friend for 2 days in Las Vegas. I am wearing my dressy "sneakers" and plan to wear them the entire time in Vegas.

Not certain if I posted, but the knee dr. gave me several more PT sessions (let's see if the Healthcare commpany) agrees.

It's a beauty of a day here, but I can see the temps 'arising!

Good morning Claudie,

I Will head to Maine tonight. Am boiling all the available sap right now so that my storage buckets are empty. Collected what was available at the tree this morning. I am now at about 50 gallons so far for the season. This weekend looks to be a good collection weekend according to the forecast. It should be 25 or so degrees at night and mid 40's by day. Will have one of my kids empty the pails Saturday.

Today is starting out in the low 40's, but a cold front has just gone past. The cold air really has not had much chance to flow in yet. I do not expect the temps to climb much today, but will cool off tonight. We are back into the regime of below normal temps for a few days. Its been that way for a solid two+ months now. It has cost a bit more to heat the house in gallons of oil. Thank goodness it came down in price! My tank was filled last week. I believe I am all set until mid summer when the will fill it again as I also use it for hot water.
