Happy Halloween, everybuddy!

Good morning, Dino, Robustis, WKGaser, MidnightSun, keywest, senile, mnjrfan, org, JM, hmcsretired07, TUrtLE, and scout!

Dino, aaahhh, the day has come that Emily decided she was too old for trick-or-treating! Yes, she's growing up! Thanks for the tunes from Dino's jukebox; I am familiar with 3 of them (not the 2nd one).

Robustus, good for you, not giving in to your dad. Shame on him for trying to bribe you with food. :( As for your mom...I think you've finally got it! Just seeing you makes her happy.

MidnightSun, cool that the chicken soup is helping some pounds to come off. :)

mnjrfan, I know you're going to be happy when all that outside stuff gets done. Maintenance on the lawn equipment? Yeah, gotta do that so it lasts.

org, a cut up? Yeah, he sure was that (Henry VIII)!

JM, we're supposed to get a little warmer than that 50° you speak of, but not much. Is there snow predicted for your area? None this far south, but in the northern-most counties of GA, which IS close to you.

TUrtLE, oh, yum! Those cookies look great! I believe I'll have a pumpkin one. Thanks!

scout, thanks for the Friday music!

WKGaser, keywest, senile, and hmcsretired, thanks for stopping in!

Even though it is Halloween, no getting ready for trick-or-treaters here. Our house sits about 800 feet off the road and shielded somewhat by woods. In the 30+ years we've been in this house, we have never had even one Halloween visitor. Oh, well; that's the way it is!

On this date, in 1517, Martin Luther posted the 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg Palace church, marking the start of the Protestant Reformation in Germany.

Good morning Claudie!

Not much going on around here yesterday. Myself and my closet neighbor's got our last 10ft of sidewalk finally replaced yesterday. Now they're covered with plastic for I would assume a week of curing. We've had major upgrades (gas main, sewer system, tree removal, sidewalk/driveway removal, etc) in the 6-7 blocks surrounding me. It's been ongoing since early June. The sod was laid Monday so now I believe it's down to the final layer of asphalt remaining. If they'd only run their street sweeper to knock down the dust!

Not much on my plate for today. I'll probably do some maintenance on the lawn equipment. I'd hate for any break downs because I got lazy... And of course, my girls will get their walk before the sun sets and the 'trick or treater' action begins!! HA!

Good morning Claudie!

Think spam is better than bills. At least it is free.

Left nice and early for the market. The drive beside the CT River was serene w.oone vehicle in site in either direction. Too bad there was heavy overcast. The reflections in the still river was picturesque. The trees reflected perfectly in the still waters. The reflections a mirror.

Bought lightly at the market. Had lots of veggies remaining from the week before. Both lemons (huge ones) and limes are 5/$1, 2 butternut squash, 8 lbs at 48¢ a lb were $3.84, Driscoll strawberries $2 for 1 lb, and red bell peppers $1.75 a lb. Big Papa's Mkt (Click on "See more") has excellent low prices and produce 1 day just harvested and driven up from Boston in the wee hours.

Was going to visit my pal at Rite Aid, he car was not there so he wasn't either, Went to WM for a few items and then to Shaw's. Grabbed the wrong 8 oz bags of spinach that were on sale for $1.

Was amazed the experienced Front End Mgr, that took over the cashier's spot, had a lot of trouble crediting my account for the spinach. It was a 12 minute experience. Told her my hip cartilage is worn and she was nice enough to exchange the spinach in produce for me.

Returned home to clean up the ribs out of the crock pot, pour the homemade BBQ sauce into a cottage cheese container and freeze it. Coating the cleaned crock w/evoo added 5 boneless skinless chicken breasts ($1.77 a lb!)

Much of the in stock green beans were added, all the Brussels sprouts, 6 massive carrots, an onion, 6 cloves of garlic and two yams. Barely room for all of this. Glad it is a 6 quart crock pot. 4 hours on high and she is ready.

Then slices of a chicken breast were cubed, onion, carrots, celery sliced and simmered for an hour. Then wheat spaghetti in 1½" lengths were added and cooked for 12 minutes.

A ½ cup of milled flax seed, which thicken up soup and gravies wonderfully was added. Made 2 quarts of chicken soup for a snack of for brekky. Noticed this homemade soup is allowing me to drop some pounds nicely.

Civil twilight is 6:49 AM EDT. Night is 6:09 PM.

Sunrise: 7:19 AM. Set: 5:39 PM.

Length of day: 10h 17m. Length of visible light: 11h 17m. Tomorrow will be 2m 45s shorter.

The temp is 34° (1°C), the high will be 47° (8°C), w/further overcast.

Have a delightful day!

Good evening/night Claudie,

Shame on me again for being lazy again today.

My dad came over honking his horn bugging me to go with him. He wanted to take me to the store to run in a get him some stuff. I refused so he left. Then, about a half hour later, he showed up again. This time he had a box of donuts and a burger for me. I snatched the burger and he wanted me to go with him out to Mom's to give the donuts to her. But, the catch was that I still had to go to the store for him. So, I still had the burger and ran in and ate it while he sat out in the driveway honking. Eventually after 10 minutes, he gave up and took off. Then, once he got home, he called me to come over to his house and get the donuts and take them to Mom. But, once again, he wanted his stuff wanted bought back to him. So, I refused to do anything. So, the donuts are probably still sitting in his car as I type this. (In case you are wondering how he knew I was off. He didn't know. He just pulled in my driveway and obviously saw my car.)

Anyway, to get back on what you were saying about making Mom happy. Lately all it takes for her to hear or see me to make her happy. She still gets upset when I tell her I am coming and I don't show up. I think anything that will keep her from being cooped up in that place will satisfy her. Unfortunately, I can't always be there to do that. She understands, but still hasn't completely accepted that she's there for the rest of her life. She has the desire to get up and walk again and hopefully get out of there. But, I have some doubts that will happen. It would be nice, but I think it is better to leave her there than risking it to live at home.

Well, it is almost 12, so I better post this.

Back to work tomorrow. (I hope it isn't too busy since the weather said the "S" word. However, nothing major here except a few wet flakes mixed in the chilly rain. But, the mountains are supposed to get the worst. They even have Winter Storm Watches and Advisories out since this afternoon!)

Happy early Halloween!

Good evening/morning Claudie

Had a great evening with the Mrs. and Dylan this evening as Trick or Treat took place in Middlebourne tonight. I'm enjoying a Twizzlers right now. Emily, at almost 13, has decided that she's done with dressing up:-( Yeah, I know, this day was coming.

Was unable to get the jukebox tunes out last night. So, let's get caught up. Don't worry, I have extra quarters if anyone needs them.

What haven't I already said about this guy. Greatest selling album of all time, seven top 40 singles from this album, and the late, legendary Vincent Price doing a "rap" on this tune. As close to rap as I'll do on the jukebox. The actual video runs about 14 minutes long so I decided we'd go with a home made version with emphasis on the song.

Michael Jackson - "Thriller"

The second Halloween-themed tune was a huge hit for this guy in 1981. It was sampled in 2009 by Kid Rock and that particular version sits atop my list of songs I absolutely hate. The original Warren Zevon song is one of my all time favorites. How can you go wrong with lines like "I saw a werewolf drinking a Pina Collada at Trader Dick's?"

Warren Zevon - "Werewolves Of London"

Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without this classic from 1962. And this one does have a cute video with it.
Bobby "Boris" Pickett - "Monster Mash"

Finally, the regular weekly Jukebox entry.

For this week's regular jukebox entry, I came across some fascinating trivia connected with it. The song is "Ghostbusters" from Ray Parker Jr. In some countdowns it peaked at #2 being kept out of the top spot by "When Doves Cry" from Prince for the movie Purple Rain in 1984. When the sequel to Ghostbusters came out in 1989, Bobby Brown was called upon to make the single from it. It also peaked at #2 being kept out of the top spot by.... you guessed it, Prince. He was a #1 with "Batdance" from the movie "Batman." No other artist has performed this unique feat and was a definite one in a billion shot for the Pop charts. Have a safe and happy Halloween buddies. See you back here after we flip the calendars and set the clocks back.

Good morning Claudie,

Doing OK today. Not much on the schedule except the usual Thursday shopping. Might see about moving some leftover leaves and mulching them. The whole lawn does not need mowing. Its been warm enough its still growing some. Have extras on the shopping list as my newest grand son gets christened this weekend. Daughter wants a few on her Mom's specialties for the party after.

ANOTHER good morning out! Man! I'm on a roll! :)

In and out of the chiro's office (a good adjustment, esp. considering all the super stress from last week); got to Mom's before she went down to the beauty salon for her weekly visit; and then on to a Kroger gas station, where the listed price was $2.77/gallon, but I was able to use up the rest of my fuel points for this month (it was 'only' 10¢, but that's better than nothing, right?) and only paid $2.67/gallon! :)

Home for the rest of the day. :)

Hello, grmoore, hmcsretired07, and Farful!

grmoore, not trying to be nosy, but when you go to those 6 month appointments with the dermatologist, does he always have to freeze off on those places? Have a good time at dinner tonight with your daughter!

hmcsretired, thanks for stopping in!

Farful, yikes! Trick-or-treating there tonight? How come? Oh, dear! 3 visits to the chiro for K. last week? She must have really done something bad to herself! :( Have a good time at lunch today!

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Thursday! 44 degrees this morning. 2.6 mile walk complete.

Dental and dermatology appointment went well. No issues at dentist and the normal freezing events for multiple places on my face, hands, arms and back. I return in 6 months for both.

We'll have dinner with our daughter in Atlanta tonight after work.

Off to another day of meetings and solving challenges.

Have a great day all!

Good morning, WKGaser, Robustus, yankie, MidnightSun, Dino, mnjrfan, Lighting10K, JM, org, senile, TUrtLE, and scout!

Robustus, there's a possibility of snow in the far northeastern part of GA, too. :( As for your mom...yes, it doesn't take much to make her happy. :)

MidnightSun, getting bills in the mail (or even online notices) is no fun for me either. :(

mnjrfan, glad you're making progress on those leaves. Is there still a lot more to clean up? As for the World Series....I didn't really have a favorite team to win. I'm just glad (for all who watched) that the whole series seemed competitive. Now no more baseball and on to other sports!

Lighting, {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}

JM, watch out! There might be some snow flurries in your area's forecast! Definitely colder temps!

org, hmmmmm, King Henry VIII; I believe I remember him from World History. :)

TUrtLE, thanks for the info on the sea stars. I actually don't know much about them at all.

scout, yeah, if you sat on the couch and ate bon-bons all the time, you'd need to take another class!

WKGaser, yankie, Dino, and senile, thanks for stopping in!

Agenda for this morning....chiro, Mom's, gas station, home. :)

Good Morning Claudie,

Juvenile sea stars on the Florence jetty, the county to my south.

Highlights from the article.

Divers in the Pacific Northwest faced a gruesome landscape over the past few months. Sea stars, stricken with a wasting syndrome whose cause has puzzled scientists across the globe, were disintegrating arm by arm into pale piles of gelatinous goo.

A glimmer of hope appeared on Florence’s North Jetty this month in the form of juvenile stars. An aquarium volunteer first noticed the tiny invertebrates during a recreational dive. She let the Aquarium know and a team was deployed the next day to survey the area.

The aquarium Safety Officer who led the science dive team said, “It was overwhelming, when we first got down there it looked like the rocks were covered with barnacles. We soon realized those white spots were thousands and thousands of stars. I have never seen them in numbers like that, it was pretty incredible.”

The thumbnail-sized juveniles were so abundant, as many as 202 in a square meter, that divers had to change their survey technique to get an accurate sample of the stars’ numbers before they ran out of air.

This may be the first sign of recovery in Oregon, where sea star wasting syndrome has ravaged local star populations.

Thousands of juvenile starfish, offspring of those who died off during recent “wasting” episode along the coast.

Have a Thankful Thursday!

Good morning Claudie!

Not much happening here today. Not much happened yesterday either other than the usual yard work of bagging leaves. There's still bags of leaves at the curbside up and down the street. It happens every year that the pickup service begins to run behind because of the huge volume of leaves at one time. One year I remember it wasn't until the weekend that they finally got to us. It's also the time of year you can see who takes care of their yards, and who doesn't. I'd be embarrassed! Thankfully the neighbors around me take pride in their yards...

Disappointing finish to the world series! Oh well, as they say here in Minnesota (every year), "there's always next year!".

Have a great day! Later

Good morning Claudie!

It is normal for the the mtns to get snow in Oct. Even much earlier in the month.

Woke up for the day at 1 AM. Not bad at all. Made a 4 berry combo w 2 fresh berries and two frozen ones. Poured in 1% milk added raisin bran and had a feast before 1:30 AM.

After my rounds the thought of getting skinless boneless chicken breasts for $1.77 a pound became overwhelming. Since it was raining lightly for hours, took the short drive to my home town Shaw's.

Bought a pkg of 6 breasts at the advertised $1.77 a lb and saw that 8 ozs of spinach was on sale for the week for $1 ea. Reg cost at Shaw's is a whopping $3.49 for an 8 oz bag. Unreal! A 2.5 lb bag is $6 every week at the mkt.

Stopped for my mail at the P.O. Getting bills is no fun for me. Almost drove to my pal's Mac's Mkt in Whitefield. No need to go as their sales were seen in the free newspapers . Will stop in Friday or the w/e to see if the are new specials for the week.

Discovered a new movie and TV series site. ShareTV offers free HD pix w/stereo sound of the latest movies and TV series for the entire year. ShareTV does not stock a cpmplete library like Putlocker.is does. Yet some of Putlockers movies are far from HDShareTV is Free w/o having to register. Draw back is there are commercials, 4 & 5, one after the other.

Have a fantastic day!

Hi Claudie,

Another lazy day off work. Just relaxed and didn't go anywhere. Didn't plan to do anything anyway. I have stuff to do, but there's always tomorrow. ;) (I'm off again tomorrow.) So, there's nothing new to be chatty about today.

The only thing is the weather. The front is going through now giving us a little rain now. I'm not too thrilled about the cooler weather coming. I loved those 80 degree days we had earlier this week! I can't believe one weather guy said the "s word." It is supposed have that stuff up in the mountains this weekend and maybe a flake or two mixed in the chilly rain here Saturday.

I probably will be back over to visit Mom tomorrow. Amazing how those visits sure make her sound much better!

dick, glad you're feeling better today. When I got my flu shot this year, the spot where it was given was just a little sore, but that was it. Sure was glad that WAS it! :) Sure hoping that the doctor can do something for you about that joint.

Good afternoon Claudie,

Feeling pretty much normal today - Define normal....

Symptoms slowly abated as the day wore on, and I got a few small naps in. The headache was the longest lasting part. Glad its over. I did not get the shot last year and had the flu, so the shot could have hit the anti-bodies I had from last year and reacted I suppose. I have not had that type of reaction before. Normally I get the slightly warm area where I got the shot and not much else.

Another warmish day today. We will have a front tonight, then a cold storm this weekend that will pull night time temps below freezing. I'm going to have to go out and pick the last of the garden, still have not had a frost. The longer term trend seems to be warmer up to near Thanksgiving according to one local forecaster. Not good for the ski resorts to try and make snow with.

I am hoping that the docs office can do something that lasts longer with my IS joint. If they can get that to hurt less, or not at all, I can then take care of the rest. The pain shot for the back I had last week has done little which tells me the majority of the issue is in that IS joint, even though my MRI looks terrible! Will be nice to have that appointment, and even though I have to wait, I look at it as something that will help me, so its worth the wait.

Everything done and taken care of for today! :)

Hiya, Peeka, sandipaws, attitash, and Farful!

Peeka, you're right about the rain, but it's not going to be very much at all. If we get 1-tenth-of-an-inch of the stuff, I will be surprised. It's already been sprinkling some. Hope you get more than that.

sandipaws, we were just a tad bit warmer than you this morning at about 55° it might make it to 70° today; that is, IF the clouds will thin out!

attitash, don't want to get wet? Hmmm, not sure which that is...older OR wiser! LOL

Farful, supposed to be windy here one day soon, though, I'm not sure which day. Yup! That'll surely bring down more leaves! Thanks for linking in The Purple People Eater; I've always liked that one, too. :)

Good morning Claudie and All!

Claudie, Cooler and windy at my place. More leaves to rake up too.

Thank you for the reminder for the time change.

Good morning Claudie....mix of sun & cloud with an afternoon/evening threat of rain. High of 11°C/51.8°F. Drove to work.....must be getting older(or wiser)...the thought of getting wet not appealing to me. Have a good day.

Morning Claudie!

I was checking out Weather.com and Locust Grove should get rain starting about 1 PM. That should give you time to go to the store and get home before it starts. They are actually talking about us having rain next week. We need it but I hate it when it rains.

Have a nice day and stay dry!

Good morning, WKGaser, HouHrl, sandipaws, Dino, MidnightSun, Lighting10K, JM, keywest, mnjrfan, org, senile, TUrtLE, scout, and grmoore!

Whoooeee! What a crowd! :)

sandipaws, it was an alright day yesterday. :)

Dino, yes, I remember that Classics IV song. :)

MidnightSun, wow! Snow already in the mountains! Is that usual for late October?

Lighting, yup! Game 7 of the World Series is tonight! Sure am glad that this year's series has been a good one.

JM, we probably won't get season tickets to the new stadium. The PSLs are going to be a problem (maybe) for us. :(

mnjrfan, wow! 32 bags of leaves for pickup! Is there a limit on how many bags they'll pick up at a time? Hmmmm, I wonder what they DO with all those leaves!

org, oh, no! Stock market crash! Hope that NEVER, EVER happens again!

TUrtLE, oh, yeah! The stomping-on-the-pumpkins event! :)

scout, gosh! You sure are busy with all your classes!

grmoore, hope your medical appointments go well. Hmmmm, as for your wife's problem...ouch! I've had a pinched nerve before and it's awful! Thankfully the chiropractor I was going to got it all taken care of. :)

WKGaser, HouHrl, keywest, and senile, thanks for stopping in!

Oh, boy! Is the weather ever supposed to change today! Going from temps in the high 70s (the past few days) to highs only in the mid-60s! Quite a change! Looking forward to it, though. :)

Oooops! I made a boo-boo yesterday and left the wrong link to Noah's Ark! :( Here's the right one.....Noah's Ark, and would you look at that! There's one of TUrtLE's relatives right on their home page! :)

Today I'll be going to the stores and that'll be about it. :)

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Wednesday! 54 degrees this morning.

I have two medical appointments this morning, my semi-annual dental and the scrape, freeze, cut (aka dermatologist) visits. Accordingly I will attend those and work from home around them this morning then it's off to the office for a transition meeting for my new government employee hire who starts on Monday. I will be out of the country so I need to ensure he has some of the "bubble" so he can be somewhat productive next week.

My wife's appointment went pretty well yesterday, although they have determined she pinched a nerve in her back so she'll have to see the orthopedist to see what's going on there. She thought it was a sciatic nerve issue; thankfully that doesn't appear to be the case.

Traffic going in mid-morning was much more tolerably than the normal rush hour though.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Claudie,

It's almost time for Halloween and as happens every year at the Oregon Zoo it was the squishing the squash party by the elephants the other day.

The video is 2 min. in length. I would suggest you view the first minute and watch Lily the baby elephant as she climbs on top of one of the pumpkins. The largest pumpkin weighs in at 1,266-lbs.

Happy Wednesday!

On this date, in 1929, the New York Stock Exchange crashed on Black Tuesday, precipitating the Great Depression.

Happy Hard Drive, Claudie!
