Hello, attiatsh and Robustus!

attiatsh, glad you were able to get in a round of golf today. Our temps are reported with the 'how-it-feels' temp, too, but also with the humidity and dew point.

Robustus, oh, dear! Another cut in your hours? :( Hope things pick back up soon. Glad to hear you're getting back to working out. Should make you feel a lot better.

Good evening Claudie!

Hope you got all your stuff done today! I see you made it back this afternoon. (I'll try to catch up with you in the Cafe and maybe later in here.)

Anyway, just popping in here quickly before I head over for Wed. evening service.

Work was a little busier than yesterday. However, still very slow. I peeked at next week's schedule and very disappointed! Now down to 15 hours for next week! I also peeked at the other guy's and he has the same, so I feel better about that part. However, 15 hours! Ugh! I know summer is slow, but didn't realize it will come down to this!

The only good news about the lack of hours is the days off. I'll have another 4-day weekend after Friday. I'm off tomorrow and then return Friday and then off until next Wed. So, what to do? I am joking with my mom to have us leave and go to the beach. She just called and asked when we are leaving. :)

It would be nice to go somewhere. But, financially it is impossible. But if it was, I don't know if I can get my mom out for that length of time. It would be nice, though!

By the way, what a good week for working out! I went again after work to do my shoulders and back. Unfortunately, one of the machines that I use to workout my abs were in use. So, I had to skip it and go on to the next thing. But, still got a good workout. I'm feeling it, but it's that good feeling. Now, according to my workout plan, I can take it easy tomorrow and then go back Friday for the express circuit. (I have it set up for 4 days. Workout on specific areas 3 days, a day to rest, and then the 30-minute Express Circuit.)

Well, it is getting close to time to go.

Have a good evening and get some rest, if you need it!

Good afternoon Claudie...played a round of golf this morning. Cycled to the city hall after lunch to pay my 3rd instalment of my property taxes...$1,011. Last one for the year is due the end of September. Mix of sun & cloud with 70% chance of afternoon showers...one just rolled through. High 20°C/68°F. Thanks for the explanation of the dew point. Temps here are reported with a feel like temp...humidity or wind chill. Have a good day.

Yahoo! A GOOD afternoon, indeed!

Hubby just took the call from the doctor's office, and Mom's protime number is good! Keep the same dosage and go back in a month!

<doing a happy dance; twirls round and round round, than plops down in a chair>

Whew!

Have also heard from Son; he should be close to St. Louis by now. He's just toodling along.

Good afternoon, Scanman, HappyHiker, and Farful!

Scanman, whoooeee! Purty flower! Can't wait to see the rest! Are they all yellow? As for Son, I think his moving has been in the back of his mind for several months now, and when Alhana moved to the Savannah area (4 hours away and we won't be able to see her as often), that nailed it. He's moving to Camdenton, which is on the south side of the Lake of the Ozarks.

HappyHiker, yes, yes, I know one of our teams has to lose for the next 2 days. :( Hope we can win one, maybe 2. :) I know what you mean about missing your daughter. For the last several years, Son has been close enough to see often. Now, who knows when the next visit will be? Good thing I installed Skype. :)

Farful, yes, Son calls every few hours and lets up know where he is; I'm glad. :) Lunch at LJS sounds good. We don't have one close enough. :)

Good afternoon Claudie and All!

Claudie, Glad to know that your Son calls to let you know how his trip is going. PTL!

Hope you and Hubby had a tasty breakfast at the Senior Center. Nice to obtain some Senior Day discounts on groceries too.

Wife and I are having Senior Day lunch at LJS. We get to use our baked fish coupon along with the senior discount. =D

Hi Claudie, I'm sorry that my Dodgers climbing higher up the leaderboard means that your Braves had to lose, but we all know how fickle baseball can be and things can change in the bat of an eye.

Busy but productive morning so far, walked at 6:30 and stopped for nice chats with a couple of neighbors along the way. Then I got my car washed (and did my puzzles in the newspaper at the same time) and went to Home Depot to make an exchange. I also bought some Command picture hanging strips that I saw advertised on TV. I've been putting off rehanging all the family photos I had displayed above my piano because I wasn't looking forward to making all those nail holes in my newly painted wall. I'm hoping this system, though a bit pricey, will make the job easier.

I empathize with your feelings about having your son move away. I miss my daughter every day, and she's been in Texas for 17 months now.

Okay then!

Back form my morning out.

Son left about 7:45 for his trip/move out to central Missouri. It was sad and bittersweet for me (being his mom, no matter HOW old he is), but it was something that was waaaaay overdue. He's already called me a coupla times (and is making good progress), and will probably call a few more times before he actually gets to where he's going.

After that (well, there WAS a short interval in-between!), hubby and I went to the senior center for breakfast, and then I went on my way to complete my errands. A good day out.

The major clean-up now (of the room where Son stayed) and Alhana's toy area starts tomorrow.

Hello, senile, sandipaws, dilbert3333, Lighting10K, and dickc49!

sandipaws, no phone call from the doctor's office yet.

senile and dilbert, thanks for stopping in!

Lighting, yes, hubby and I are going to the 1st preseason Falcons' game on the 8th, though, there will probably be mostly new guys playing.

dick, hope you can get some of those old pix taken care of. We have several old pix from hubby's family that were never labeled and there's nobuddy now to identify the people. Sad. :( That's why it's always important to me to put peoples' names on the back of pix!

Good morning Claudie,

Got the rest of the weeding done and the lawn mowed yesterday. I am sitting with the heating pad now, but at least its all done. No more yard work for a few days except for watering things. I have a few inside chores that mainly consist of sorting and boxing. Some is old family pictures that I need to organize and then label the boxes. The longer term is to scan them and label any individual pictures I can. That will take a long time! Some are framed pictures that have become dirty over time so they need to be taken apart,, scanned, and the frames and glass completely cleaned and reassembled.
Might go take a drive today and see what the varied road projects are doing. Its been a bit since I looked at some of them and I kind of want to see what type of progress they have made. That should not bother my back too much.

Good morning, HappyHiker, SteelPenny, Robustus, Farful, yankie, HouHrl, Dino, MidnightSun, JM,hmcsretied07, TUrtLE, grmoore, and scout!

HappyHiker, I see your team won. :( Good for them.

SteelPenny, he's actually moving farther west then St. Louis....almost go straight west to Columbia, MO, and then south; it's a town south of the Lake of the Ozarks.

Robustus, glad you got to see both of your parents. You know, about your mom and visiting...I have found, with my mother, that's it's not necessarily how long you stay, but that you visit, even if it's for a short time. That means so much to them. :)

Farful, knowing Son, he will be checking in every few hours or so to let me know where he is. That always makes me feel better.

Dino, thanks for today's music! Have fun on your trip to the zoo!

MidnightSun, it is a wonderfully cool morning here...58° and a dew point of 54°! Whoo hoo!

JM, the 2nd or 3rd weekend of August (to meet) will probably be alright.

TUrtLE, oh, cool story about the zoo guy getting those eagle babies. :) Will check in TL later.

grmoore, have a nice dinner with your daughter! Any special place picked out?

scout, congrats on doing so well in the dancing! How far up do the levels go?

yankie, HouHrl, and hmcsretired, thanks for stopping in!

Son is moving back to central Missouri today (he lived there with Alhana back in 2007...for a year...and has gone back and visited a good friend of his just about every year since then). He'll be finishing getting his truck loaded up shortly and then he'll be off. After he leaves, hubby and I will be getting ready to go have breakfast at the Senior Center. THEN I'll be going to do my errands for the day, including going to Mom's, going to the grocery store, and going to a couple of other places. I should make it home by noontime. :)

I am soooo hoping for a good protimes/INR report (for mom) from the doctor's office. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Greetings Claudie/friends:

Happy Wednesday! 60 degrees this morning.

The cooler weather is nice (surprising for July!) so our walk last night was quite enjoyable.

Tonight we have dinner plans with our daughter. This is our last free Wednesday for a while as rehearsals start again next Wednesday.

Training went well yesterday.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Claudie,
Let us know in TL how everything went today after you make it back home.

Zoo scientist repels down 70 foot cliff to help save eagle chicks.

A contaminant specialist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been investigating lead in nestling golden eagle chicks to determine whether their parents might be bringing home lead-tainted prey items for breakfast.

Obtaining that information has been no easy task. Golden eagles nest in high-up, hard-to-reach places like treetops and cliff sides. To reach the nests, field technicians must either rappel down or climb up — and they need to be quick about it since adult eagles will fly off, leaving their chicks unattended until the human visitors have left.

A conservation scientist at the Oregon Zoo with extensive mountaineering experience, was an ideal candidate to help.

For the study, the team has obtained blood samples from more than 100 golden eagle chicks at 60 nest sites in central and eastern Oregon. None of the samples has been tested yet, but he expects to have results by December.

Here is a close up of two of the chicks.

Good morning Claudie!

It got to 68°. More of the same today. Had the windows and doors opened throughout the day. It was Great!

Watched an intense episode of "The Greatest Tank Battles in History". In October of 1973 Syria launched a sneak attack on Israel in the Golan Heights.

A few outnumbered tanks manage to hold off an invasion of overwhelming size in one of the greatest tank battles ever waged. On streaming Netflix. 5/5 stars.

Got to read the May issue of Outdoor Photography that has the annual Landscape Special. Lots of action shots in sports, travel, wildlife and scenery.

Went out at 10 AM to perform lots of garden maintenance. The rain we had, 1.43 inches in 24 hours and 5.88 for the month grew the lawn veggies flowers and the weeds.

Concentrated getting the weeds out. Also one of my beef steak tomato plants keeled over due to the extra weigh if rain. Needed to push the 5' wire cage in the soil deeper and prop out the sides w/wood.

Mowed the last half of the lawn. The soil was so saturated that at times my steps squeezed out water. The wheels sank nearly 1" in those areas as well. It was fun to cut it in temps of just 61° (16°). Truly a no sweat experience.

Finished the lawn just in time for the Recycle Center to open at its noon to 5 PM time on Tuesdays. Brought the glass, tin cans, mags, paper and a collapsed metal chair to the transfer station.

Returned home instead of going to town and spending money. Watched the pilot show of the first Star Trek from 1966. Did not know Majel Barrett, the voice of all the computers in the 4 separate series, Lwaxana Troi in The Next Generation and the wife of series creator Gene Roddenberry in real life and Leonard Nimoy were the only two of the original cast in episode 1. Am a Trekker, all of them, from Day 1.

Civil twilight is 4:57 AM EDT. Night is 8:47 PM.

Sunrise: 5:30 AM. Set: 8:13 PM.

Length of day: 14h 43m. Length of visible light: 15h 50m. Tomorrow will be 2m 19s shorter.

The temp is 49° (9°C) with the high to be 73° (23°C) in beautiful clear skies.

Have a fabulous day!

Good morning Claudie

New Martinsville got the worst of it and there was a confirmed tornado in Ritchie county southeast of us. Middlebourne was spared the worst of it and thankfully no fatalities.

Busier night so I'm making my rounds here a little bit later.

First of all, a big happy 11 birthday to my Stepson, Dylan today. Mrs. K came up with his name from a character on Beverly Hills 90210, one of her favorite shows in the '90s.

Secondly, because of his birthday, I'm taking a couple of nights off to join them on a trip to the zoo in Pittsburgh so this is my last set of rounds until Friday evening. With that in mind, I'm doing a surprise edition of Dino's Jukebox this morning.

This week's edition of Dino's Jukebox features another band from across the pond as the cliche goes. This band comes from Birmingham, England and is headed by Jeff Lynne who has produced all of their material from the time they formed in 1970. He, along with former member Roy Wood, formed the band to accommodate their desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. Tonight's song was a B Side to the band's US single "Sweet Talkin' Woman" released in 1978. The backward vocals you hear at the beginning of the song are as follows:

"The Music Is Reversible, but time is not.
Turn back, turn back, turn back."

This is one of my favorite bands from the '70s and was the #40 tune on my Ultimate Top 40 countdown from 2011.

Good night Claudie and All!

Claudie, Thank you! Nice to win some prizes from the casino. Dinner at Biaggi's was excellent. Mrs. Farful had shrimp while I had the pork chop entrée. The seminar speakers did well too.

Hope and pray that your Son has a safe trip back to central Missouri. Sounds like a busy day ahead for you. Hope that you enjoy breakfast with your Hubby and everything turns out fine.

That would really be good if you find some great discounts for groceries Wednesday also. Keeping my fingers crossed for satisfactory pro-times numbers for your Mom.

Have a restful night!

Just missed ya Claudie! I hope you have a good night!

Anyway, a little catching up since yesterday's post.

First, my dad arrived and started honking outside in my driveway as I was finishing my post in the Cafe.

I got outside and he was nice to bring me a sandwich from Jimmy John's. I hurried up and gobbled it up and got dressed while he somehow patiently waited outside.

Then, I took off with him. Unfortunately, I gave in and went to my store and got his "precious" Diet Coke for him. At least he drove all the way out there. Then, I was still hungry. So, we went down the road to Sheetz (yes, the place who I applied to work in their "warehouse.") I like their chicken wings which they call "Schwingz." If you like Dr Pepper, then you might like the BBQ sauce you can get on them.

Anyway, after that little trip, we headed cross town to my mom's place, but stopped at Wendy's to grab a baked potato and chili for her. I had to bring it in to her, but it gave me a chance to visit. It seemed like I had a good time, but short since my dad was waiting outside. It ended up being emotional when I left. I reached down and gave her a hug. Then a few minutes later, she asked me to bend down again. Then, she hugged me again and yelled out "Don't go!"

As I got back in my dad's car, she called me up on the way home. I asked about what "that" was all about. She said that she didn't want me to leave and wanted me stay with her. She cried and admitted she missed me. I told her I'll be back out tomorrow (today.)

Anyway, to wrap things up. My dropped me off at my place and then I had to go all the way back to my dad's place. I threw those work clothes in his washer. Then, unfortunately, it got too late for the closest laundromat to be open to dry them. However, I still wanted to work out. So, I had to head all the way back out where we just at because the gym and the laundromat that is opened 24 hrs. is there. I did get my clothes dried and got a good workout! Felt so good working out that I didn't want to stop, but it was 11 when I got home.

That brings us to today. Back to work. Very, very slow business-wise. So, that quickly answered my question about the cut in hours. I didn't have the nerve to ask about them today. Plus, we just had the big inventory which we do every 6 weeks or every quarter, I forget which. I found out it wasn't good. My manager was off today leaving us with one of the assistants (co-managers.) But, I heard the "real" manager wasn't too happy. So, I'm interested to see how they're going to react to that. It was a pretty significant amount that was lost which I probably shouldn't tell how much due to company policy. Fortunately, due to the lack of business today, I wasn't sent home early, but sure looked like someone could very easily.

Last, I went back to workout after work. Today was my leg day. So, I do the machines that work on my legs. I definitely feel it today! I ended up only doing the bike for the cardio instead of 3 different things like last night. After I got done working out, I headed down to see Mom again. She was thrilled again to see me. I joked about what she said last night. But, she was very serious. I was worn out from the workout that I didn't stay long and her roommate had a guest.

So, it has been a "fun-filled" day and a half. Made both parents happy. Got a good workout. So, I am feeling pretty good. Sore physically, but good emotionally!

Claudie - Best of everything for your son. I know a little about that Missouri place. Never worked there, but I used to change planes in St.Louis going northbound on Monday mornings to Decatur Illinois and again on Friday afternoons on my way back to Dallas. It was on Ozark planes. Think Ozark was gobbled up by TWA which in turn was consumed by AAmerican.

Hi Claudie, I guess we'll be on opposing sides for the next few days as my Dodgers take on your Braves. Especially since we're both fighting to stay at the top of our divisions right now. Good luck, and may the best team (mine) win LOL.

Hello, attitash and Mrs. Wrench!

attitash, dew point is related to the humidity. I have trouble determining how wet/moist the air is when I see a humidity number b/c, to me, it's misleading. Anyway here's the scoop on dew point....what I just remember is that the closer that number is to 70°, the more uncomfortable it is. Today's dew point stayed around 60°, and even though the temp was about 85°, it actually didn't feel that bad. To also show you about humidity and dew point....one day, we had a humidity of 46%, which doesn't sound too bad, but the dew point was 70°, and it was awful outside!

Mrs. Wrench, 2 shots? Why not just 1? Hope they've made you feel better.

Hi Claudie, just a quick stop to say hello. Glad to hear all went well with your outing today.

This morning I had two shots in my back for the back pain, never had anything like that so will see how it works. Have to head out to the living room & rest some more before Wrench comes after me. Will stop back at a later time.

I assume the dew point is humidity. Dew point is not a topic in the north. Have a good night.

Good afternoon, attitash and Scanman!

attitash, the cooler high temps will be here for several more days, maybe even into next Tuesday, though it might get a tad warm on Thursday. Can't tell (by looking at the 10-day forecast) what the dew points will be, though. That, to me, is a BIG thing.

Scanman, I'm already ahead of you in seeing the canna pix...already did. :) Now that you learned how to post pix in GB, I can't wait to see what they look like when they bloom! Soon? BTW, I put some pix at The Roost, too...of Alhana.

Back!

Well, I've actually been back since about 11:30, but I had to take care of 'stuff,' including having lunch. Done now.

Everything went great with me taking Mom to the doctor's office to get blood drawn for her monthly check and then the trip to the store. :)

Hello, senile, sandipaws, Scanman, dickc49, MusicTeacher, JM, Farful, and kathybye!

senile, thanks for stopping in!

sandipaws, no porch time for me this morning; I had to leave to take Mom out. Usually I can spend some time out there in the morning IF I don't go out in the morning. Hmmmm, maybe I can sit out on the porch later this afternoon.

Scanman, nice that you had a cooler nighttime temp, too. Really looking forward to those temps!

dick, oh, dear! An EF2 tornado on the ground for that long? <shudders> Baaaaad! :( Glad you didn't have much damage where you live. How far are you from Revere? Hope you get that outside work done today. This a a perfect day to be outside working!

MusicTeacher, hope you're able to get all your plans tasks done today.

JM, I am waiting patiently (NOT) for the UPS man to bring those tickets! Meeting again at the Waffle House will be a good place. :)

Farful, wow! You won some great prizes yesterday, esp. that hotel stay! Cool! Our hummers are thirsty, too. :)

kathybye, oh,dear! Not a good time for your AC to mess up. Hope you can get a better estimate today. Don't want to be too long without it. You go back to work tomorrow? Will the rest of the week be pre-planning days, too? Did you ever find out which days of the week you'll be working (it's 2 days/week, right?)?

<looks out the window to see if the UPS man is coming down the driveway>

I returned home from the family reunion trip; we had a great time!
The Nat'l. Air & Space Museum was fantastic and I took more than a few
pictures. One of the pics had hubby standing in front of the F4 that he flew when in the Air Force. Perhaps "down the road" the museum will have the F-16 hubby flew in Air Force. The F-35 was displayed similar to the airplane coming to Luke AFB; however, the move is "grounded" at present.

Hope your trip is fun, and your Mom's bloodwork is good, and that shopping is easy.

I return to work tomorrow.

Not certain if I mentioned our Lower level AC is non-functioning, and blowing hot air. First estimate was $700, so one more estimate today.
We may repair to allow us time to research units, seer ratings, etc. BIG Purchase as our system requires a gas heat insert, which I love.

Good morning Claudie and All!

Claudie, Best wishes for good numbers for your Mom's appointment today. Hope you and your Mom have a nice shopping day at WM too.

Two hummers were at my nectar feeder yesterday. They sure were thirsty buggers.

Monday was a nice day for Mrs. Farful and me. Won some prizes at the casino "Disc Drop" and "Spin & Win" games. We have two free breakfasts and a $5 slot play coupon. Also won a free hotel stay too. Made reservations for free hotel stay for this coming Saturday. Attending a seminar dinner tonight at Biaggi's. It is one of favorite restaurants.

Good Morning, Claudie ♫ So glad your day yesterday went smoothly with the Yard Worker showing up early and doing his tasks, which gave you the extra time to get all of your errands done in a timely manner.

I hope your day today with taking your Mom to the Doctor's Office for the routine blood test, which we hope will be normal, and to WM will go well. Hope you can enjoy some downtime with relaxing at your home porch swing afterward.

Regarding the figs we picked, most of them were ripe, but we picked some that were not ripe, so that they can ripen later on. The figs are a green variety.

Today I look forward to a full day of taking care of tasks as needed.

Have a Beautiful Tuesday!

Good morning Claudie,

We were OK. No tree damage in the yard. We got a few gusts, but nothing much. The Revere tornado was an EF2 and on the ground for 2 miles and 4 minutes. It lead off the ABC national newscast. We have dew points in the mid 50's today and temps to run about 80. Dew points will fluctuate up a bit this week, but temps are supposed to go no higher than the mid 80's for the next week. Certainly a bit cooler than in past years. Personally I like it! Will look at cutting the back yard today and will finish that strawberry weeding. Then the outside work is caught up.

Aaahhh! Such a gorgeous morning already! I can tell the sun's going to be out, but the best part is that the temp is 67° and the dew point is only 60°. It feels WONDERFUL! Already have all the doors open! The high today is supposed to be in the low-to-mid-80s. Another touch of Autumn in the middle of summer! :)

Good morning, Dino, yankie, MidnightSun, HouHrl, hmcsretire07, grmoore, scout, and TUrtLE!

Dino, I heard about all that bad weather up your way. Glad it didn't affect you much.

MidnightSun, gosh, lots more rain for you! We sure could use some of it. I like your predicted high temp for the day. :)

grmoore, no rain here yesterday either. I believe it was farther south of us, like down Macon-way. Hubby had to water his tomatoes, too.

scout, yes, 53° is waaaay too cool for July, but it'll warm up for ya later.

TUrtLE, hmmmm, lasagna's alright, I guess, but I really prefer spaghetti more.

yankie, HouHrl, and hmcsretired, thanks for stopping in!

I'll be taking Mom to the doctor's office this morning; it's already been a month (thank goodness), so it's time to get her blood checked again. Oh, man! Hoping for a good protime/INR reading! After that, I will take her to WM for her weekly shopping. Then it'll be on to home for me. :)

Good Morning Claudie and Friends,

Today is National Lasagna Day.

Lasagna, a wide flat pasta, is possibly one of the oldest pasta’s that there and is also a dish made with this type of pasta in several layers interspersed with layers of various ingredients and sauces.

* The origin of lasagna is debated with varying theories.

* Originally the word “lasagna” referred to the pot in which the dish was cooked rather than the food itself as it does today.

* Lasagna was featured in a 14th century England cookbook.

* Cartoon character Garfield’s favorite food is
lasagna.

Happy National Lasagna Day!
