What a bunch of morons!!!
Later in the article, it mentions that those who sued to stop this want Chevron to keep paying the idled construction workers in the meantime. ANY semblance of rationality went out the window!!!

Okay, let's strangle them even more. As if we don't have enough problems paying for energy as it is. The EnviroNazis won't be happy until every last shred of mankind is wiped off the face of the earth. In spite of the dire straits that California finds itself in these days, these idiots want to heap even more problems on the plate. Sure wish I was an independently wealthy SFO liberal with nothing better to do than to make life even harder for the people who actually work for a living.

Good! This is good news. As has already been reported we already have enough oil in reserve. And hopefully if electric cars, wind turbines and solar energy to mention a few hold their promises, we'll only need oil to make plastics. And even then I'm sure there are synthetic alternatives.

Long term this is bad news. The last refinery built in the US was in 1976, and now there can't be an upgrade of an older one. Better get out the bikes and start walking to work. Might be healthy but sure does push the US back closer to a 3rd world country rather than as leader in the world.

This is what happens when the Yuppie NIMBYs take over. This was a very depressed area around this refinery in the late 70's. you could buy properties around the refinery for less than $30k. This is what happens when an area becomes THE high rent district. NIMBYS will save us from a lot of Obongo's low efficiency solar/wind projects. This area isn't to far away from the Northern CA wind farms of the 70's-80's at Vacaville on US 80 and Altamont Pass on US 580... The environmentalists and the end of TAX CREDITS halted these projects. Will DEJAVU happen again when these projects aren't financially viable?

I thought the primary bottle neck in the supply chain was our inability to refine crude oil at a high enough rate.

<<<<< "My feeling is, out of crisis comes opportunity, perhaps the opportunity for both sides to agree to monitor the air," Rogers said. "And if it's dirtier, then Chevron would not get to run the heavier, dirtier crude. They wouldn't have to rip out the machinery and scrap it, they just couldn't use the dirtier crude." >>>>>
I think Chevron SHOULD take advantage of this "opportunity" - RIP OUT THE MACHINERY AND SEND IT TO KOREA OR SCRAP IT!!!! - Let California gas prices be higher than in Alaska....

"Another move by environmentalists to restrict gasoline production in the US resulting in higher prices for all of us. If I was running Chevron, I would shut down the refinery (making the environmentalists even happier), lay off all workers at the plant, and stop selling gasoline or diesel in that county."
AMEN, brotha!!
There's only ONE problem! If you did exactly as spelled out above, these SAME 'Environmentalists' would be frantically DIGGING for =something else= to CRY LIKE A BABY about!
I can already 'hear' them complaining that Exxon/Mobil's prices are too high compared to what their brother/sister pays at a "Chevron" station in the county next to them! "Why can't we have CHEVRON stations in my county!?!"
I have a really 'tasty' SUCKER for _every_ "Special Interest Group" in the U. S. that drives =our= prices/taxes continually -HIGHER-!! They can simply F.O.A.D.!! And that =includes= the EX 'Price Is Right' host!!!!!
