Europe Won’t Match U.S. Shale Boom Soon to Gazprom’s Relief

bloomberg.com -- Pumping natural gas trapped in shale rock has made the U.S. the world’s largest producer of the fuel. While geologists say Europe may have similar fields spread from northwest England to Ukraine, drilling them profitably will prove a whole lot harder.

Getting the shale gas out requires drilling hundreds of wells and blasting the rock with water and chemicals, raising environmental objections in densely populated Europe. Those obstacles suggest Russia’s OAO Gazprom, supplier of 25 percent of Europe’s gas, will have plenty of customers for its fuel pumped through new pipelines across the Baltic and Black Seas.

What is good for Gazprom is bad for the civilized world (Czar Vladimir's Russia does NOT belong in the civilized world - no autocracies make the grade).

However, what works in the US and Canada doesn't necessarily make sense for Europe. Lots of North America is empty. Much less of Europe is so. And the Europeans are much more infected by the Green disease, and it isn't so much leftist politicians shoving economically non-sensical Green policies down the populace's throat as it is the Europeans electing leftists with open eyes.

OTOH, Europe is dying.

Gazprom will benefit from this by getting more customers while European countries continue to make an enviornmental issue of this. Natural gas is plentiful.

T. Boone Pickens is right, we need more natural gas. Wouldn't it be so much nicer if we converted to OUR OWN natural gas and quit buying oil from OPEC? Keep our dollars here and rebalance our foreign exchange balance. Let China and India support the Persian Gulf countries for a change.

and the way Obama act right now. clean coal technology ,which doesn't exist at the moment . We could be using natural gas real quick and supply the country with our home fuel supply. And layoff foriegn oil supply right now. And oil would dropping hard right now because of it. And hire alot of US people to work and unemployment # would change alot faster that what it is right now.

Doesn't alot of Europe have Geothermal heat for their buildings, so they don't need natural gas as much as we do because we use natural gas for heating our buildings?
