the Ohio Mile is run on an airport runway in Wilmington, Ohio. The sanctioning body is the East Coast Timing Association. The next meet is scheduled for September. Check out ECTA for info.

Also heard that Elon Musk is on the board of SolarCity that is the company I went with. They are doing battery storage at some sites in Cal with battery packs from Tesla that are no longer up to auto discharge/charge rates of current. Batteries are the limiting factor. some people have theorized using plug ins for emerg. storage that the car could run the house. I have seen some systems that you can get for a Prius to do just that. E power at 3kw for your house. I will find out about the Ohio mile. I need to know for myself too. who knows I might see you there!

In 2010 I rented a bunch of Zipcars back when they were featuring hybrids and the prius ,insights and Altima I drove. the Nissan Altima was a really great car but did not get as good mileage as the prius or insight but it was really fun to drive and did not feel like it was compromised like the insight and to a much lesser degree the prius. Last week I got a nice ride in a Volt which was also pretty quick. Seemed to have really good acceleration even when loaded. It would be a better car if it did not need premium gas and held five passengers. think a Impala with the Volt drive train and running on mostly plug in and occasionally on gas. I don't understand why more people don't get solar panels. I wanted to do for years. My only regret is that the system is not bigger so I could use less nat. gas. we are slowly making the house tighter and replacing less efficient appliances with better ones, more insulation, gap filling, LED lamps etc.

Yes that is better alright but even with the superchargers and Tesla really long distances away from population centers are difficult. I have made a lot of road trips to Washington State and California and came home via the Gulf Coast and Florida. For all local stuff a plug in hybrid is in my future for sure. The right deal has not come along yet. :) beside you could burn bio diesel and E85... About 7 months of the year we run a surplus meter runs backwards and we get credit on our bill. The July bill is now due probably get it tomorrow. We are about 990 Kw hours to the good for the year. Each month they charge us 6.87 for grid maintenance too. If we had a system as big as yours I would likely reduce my dependence on nat. gas also. H2O heat is a good one and maybe a heat pump too.

The Ohio mile I believe is a SCTA sanctioned event. So is the Texas one as well as the Muroc dry lake and Bonneville. But I should check my sources to make sure. You would 2be right about diesels 10-15 years ago but not now. My neighbor has an 2014 A7 Audi TDI and I have never smelled even a whiff of diesel fumes. It goes like hell and gets almost 40 mpg on the highway. The neighbor has a lead foot too. The secret is that Urea liquid that they put into the exhaust it converts the NOX to N2O and there is no smell at all. The VW and Mercedes diesels all use that Urea fluid. I lived in California for about 9 years and I remember when CARB got some really regulation that forced low sulfur diesel on the trucks in Cal. Overnight almost the air got cleaner. That was Jan. 1997. I used to commute from Sant Cruz to Fremont over HWY 17 one of the more notorious highways in California.

I'd never thought about the difference in rates with your own solar panels, but I bet you're right. Thanks for sharing!
