The problem with Fracking NG wells is the after effects....whether here in the US or Russia. We have discussed before the problem with Fracking Fluids and their damage to wildlife and cattle, but the biggest issue is how Fracking effect Mother Earth.
When you essentially blow apart underground rock with extreme pressure from fluids, the result after NG is extracted are Voids in previously solid rock.
Here in the Oil Patch...we are seeing increasing incidents of earthquakes in the 3-4 level. Now several times a month, when normally we saw them a couple of time per year. Not high enough to do damage, but certainly a wake-up call if you have not had earthquakes on a regular basis. We need to be very careful how and where we frack.

tea4-2: I guess they're letting Russia pollute herself and consider their own areas to be staying clean. Not the worst of strategies.

I applaud the common sense of the Europeans.
The GAS is THERE.
The current fracting methods are very damaging to the environment and have been shown time and time again to pollute local WELLS and WATER supplies.
The GAS IS STILL THERE.
Waiting.
AND, will still be there when improved, less toxic, less hazardous methods to recover it have been developed.
The GAS IS STILL THERE.
And will still be there
WHEN and IF they need it.

Good for shale gas, i hope Europe can get it producing. but like the articles said, Europe is density with people, and one environment hiccup and it all over.

It is a great future until Gazprom decides (again) to cut Europe off in a dispute. Europe has been warned and if they choose to trust the Russians will keep the supply lines open, they deserve whatever happens to them.

Not good news for those supplied by Gazprom who has been known for using it's monopoly in the region for political purposes.

The easiest gas / oil to recover is the first to be recovered. The natural gas in Europe will be recovered when the current supplies are exhausted and prices start to rise (again)

Not too much water available in Europe. And since some state are short of water during the summer, I am not sure if it is a good idea to proceed that way for gas, will see what will happen in 10 years, I am pretty sure water will start to get expensive in North America....

The gov wants more battery powered cars. Then you have to recycle the batteries. No such setbacks for CNG vehicles.

The French and The British use lots of Nuclear Power and the Brit's have no problem drilling in the North Sea for Oil. If natural gas makes economic sense I thnk they'll drill it.

Made in the USA is a joke when no one is working to make anything. THousands can be drilling for oil, gas, etc but no one is hiring........... So USA motto: Give little & raise the price.

The costs involved to produce natural gas from shale is expensive and will keep many nations from taking on this type of exploration.

When it runs out in the US, then it will be worth drilling for. Keep our gas in the US and they'll drill sooner and our price will be less!
