I'm not sure it's worth the risk if we are going to send it all to China.

Keystone XL gets boost in Nebraska re-route ans stop the Canadian Keystone XL illegal land grab from private citizens and stealing their land. The Keystone XL pipeline will process crude oil into fuel at the gulf coast refineries and export that fuel to countries that will pay more for it. The US will Not see cheaper fuel prices! Big Oil will build the pipeline, no matter what Sneeky or D.C. Says. 'Coming out of the closet' Sneeky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Sneeky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down! No Thanks to the Mindless Sheep Pinheads that voted this bozo back in office. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their personal greedy benefit. The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon - *$3, *$3.50/gallon or *$4.00 is Not the new low! More Refineries are Not the answer, Stop exporting fuel is! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII! - The Day After......

Would some of clermont40...'s dear friends sit him down and explain to him the USA national elections are over. Get over it clermont. Sore losers are quite unbecoming.
You said it well CdnLynx, jrsva, and Aviator_Rob. A few here desperately require a tutorial in reading and thinking before spouting or regurgitating the usual industry spin and lies.

Too many assumptions are being made re: export of tar sand oil to China! Canadian oil sent to American refineries for processing, therefore the oil can be exported to either America, China or any other country. The assumption, that because America is refining the tar sands oil, it's automatically American oil, total fallacy! If America does not want to purchase it then it can be then purchased by other nations, suspect China would not be the only recipient. Keystone XL pipeline is designed to carry other oil also; Canada also produces sweet oil. Sweet oil wells are situated throughout western Canada, B.C, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The Bakken oil formation is situated both in the U.S & Canada, and the Keystone is also slated to carry oil from the Bakken formation! The Keystone is to be a communal pipeline; example - if it handles 1,000,000 barrels per day, and half the crude, (500,000 is equally shared) between Canada and the U.S, then the refined petroleum product belongs equally to Canada and the U.S.

Ya right suzmar, just think how much we'd all save if all business plans just skipped the necessary environmental studies. Can you spell L-O-V-E C-A-N-A-L suzmar?

This needs to get built. It is no wonder that prices are so high. The consumer ultimately pays for all the lawsuit defenses, environmental studies etc.

@EvPv wrote, "Simply make every person involved culpable for any problems. They will earn the profits, they also take the risks. No hiding behind the corporate shield. This way everybody should be able to figure things will be done in the most responsible manner."
A nice sentiment but do you truly believe that is what would happen? Too much money at stake and too many lawyers on retainer for that to ever happen.

You forgot two steps, @clermont40miles.
Step 4a: Spill
Step 4b: Export
There is no Step 5 for the tar sands, except in China.

You're right, @SammyAdams. The XL pipeline is a national security issue... FOR CHINA. None of that oil is staying in this country. It's all bound for the Gulf coast and then onward to Far East.

The Canadian tar sands are world's largest pile of asphalt. They should use it to pave a highway from Canada to Mexico, instead of trying to push it through a pipe.

The Koch sewer line should have been banned by now. Why would any American want the filthy, hazardous oil tar piped across the US, refined in coastal refineries while polluting the surrounding environment, then shipped out to global markets with absolutely no benefit to US citizens unless you are one of the corporate thugs in the Big Oil syndicate?

1) Fire BHO & Co. 2) Build the pipeline. 3) Produce. 4) Transport. 5) Consume.
Step #1 is paramount. Missed opportunity or stolen opportunity, so will be difficult to achieve.
