Solar projects also bring out protests

A2Z News -- BLYTHE, Calif. — One of California’s showcase solar energy projects, under construction in the desert east of Los Angeles, is being threatened by a deadly outbreak of distemper among kit foxes and the discovery of a prehistoric human settlement on the work site.

The $1 billion Genesis Solar Energy Project has been expedited by state and federal regulatory agencies that are eager to demonstrate that the nation can build solar plants quickly to ease dependence on fossil fuels and curb global warming.

Instead, the project is providing a cautionary example of how the rush to harness solar power in the desert can go wrong — possibly costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and dealing an embarrassing blow to the Obama administration’s solar initiative.

Make sure the work site is clear of historical, archeological and cultural artifacts And rare plants or animals before building. Cheaper renewable energy from solar, wind, hydro, thermal, tidal and/or nuclear to replace the oil that will not be there some day. Cheaper alternative fuels from algae, bacteria, the biomass or the waste stream. Whatever the size or shape the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using ‘other’ forms of transportation or car pool to lower your cost for transportation. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

Wal Mart, USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx, Costco, Boeing, Target, NASA, many airports and military buildings are possible locations. REI, a national outdoor store, has solar panels on their roofs and high efficiency lighting in every store across the nation, LEED certified. The more electricity generated by green solutions, the more for house, building and vehicle use and electricity NOT generated by dirty coal, oil or natural gas. The only reason they rushed is so they could have a photo op. And many of the protesters would protest any kind of development. We should have a sane energy policy, one that's main concern is inexpensive energy.
