what would help more is a move toward more use of natural gas in home heating / water heating, etc. as there is a lot of waste of oil and electricity (from oil and coal).

With so much natural gas in both countries, it is a shame that it is not used more for transportation. The US only has a little over 100,0000 cars and trucks fuel by natural gas, which is about 1% of the world fleet of 12.8 million. In a lot of countries, regular gasoline cars are being converted to bi-fuel CNG/gasoline car for as little as $1,500. With close to $2.00 a gallon savings, the conversion can be a no brainer.
The US needs to find ways to make it cheaper to convert gasolne cars to bi-fuel cars. Thew current price is at least $6,000 making it a lot more difficult to justify.

Exporting makes more sense than burning it off as waste, which is the current policy at many oil fields and refineries. Competition with Canada will at least be civilized and should help keep prices down for domestic customers.

“So ironically, the U.S. politicians may argue about ths issue but if they don’t take advantage, Canada will, and gas prices will still go up. For the U.S., it’s a case of use it or lose it.”
And DC is playing circle jerk with Solar and wind...

While natural gas is still cheap the US should build the equivalent of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to stockpile some.

cheap today ... price it for export at the real costs and leave it for us at a lower affordability price domestically.

I think a little competition is good for both countries. It will keep the price of LNG down.

But regardless of the U.S. decision on LNG exports, gas prices will go up as export avenues open up."
This is what I have been saying for a long time now, but I don't think the American public see the writing on the wall. There is a world market for oil and any liquid form of energy! Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) is very desirable for shipment to the Asian market. Japan and other countries have been buying it for some time now paying prices triple what they get for it in the USA. Cheniere has applied for and received a permit to export LNG from the Gulf to foreign markets. Others are jumping at the chance to export our natural resources also. I feel that will be the end of our cheap natural gas for heating homes as well as for transportation which hasn't caught on yet. I feel about the time we can switch to natural gas for cars, it will no longer be $1.19 a gallon but $6 or more. We play by the rule which is bend over, and big oil has one, greed!
